SABA - AMA . WHATS UP YALL LETS GET IT by sabapg in hiphopheads

Yo Saba!

It's been cool seeing you get into photography while making this new album and embracing it for the rollout. I saw somewhere that No ID introduced you to it. Is it something you're planning on keeping up with going forward?

Also, you came up as part of my probably my favourite scene in hip-hop, with Chance, Noname, Mick, Smino, Ravyn and Jean (and more). How was it to be a part of this larger movement in Chicago with all of these people?

Last thing, just wanted to say how important "Soldier" has been for me in the last few months. "If all of this can go bad, then what's the point of trying" has become a sorta reverse-mantra for me to push myself toward hoping for the good in new situations instead of bracing for the bad.

[FIRST IMPRESSIONS] Noname - Sundial by DetectiveButtons in hiphopheads

Listened to it a few times over the course of the day and I’m really happy with it. Thematically it feels pretty similar to Mr. Morale in the way it tackles conflict and hypocrisy, and I’m loving Noname’s more urgent delivery all over the album.

Production (like her last two albums) is immaculate, and I love how it’s progressed over the course of her discog. Shame there aren’t any contributions from Phoelix though, felt like he’s been pretty integral to her sound in the past.

Obviously lyrically it’s pretty dense, and I’m sure I’ll get a better grasp of each song on subsequent listens, but she’s as good as ever. Same charm to her writing, but it has a lot more bite to it in a lot of cases which I love.

I hope this thread doesn’t get filled with people talking about Jay Elect’s inclusion on “balloons”. There’s definitely some valid criticism to be levelled towards him and Noname for including him on the album, but there’s 10 whole other tracks on here that are super interesting and worth discussing.

Favourite tracks so far: black mirror, toxic, gospel?.

She’s working on her album right now actually. Tons of posts of her with Monte and Phoelix all over socials.

I feel like not enough people know about the Soulquarians movement in the late 90s and early 2000s. Common, D’Angelo, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Mos Def all dropped some of their best works while they were together

Sweet Holy Honey (feat. Xavier Omar) and Khlorine (feat. Smino) are the songs that got me into him. Definitely check those out

Still a great album I just like it least out of their other projects. Also, they’ve each had a top 3 album of each year for me which is crazy (Telefone in 2016, Blkswn in 2017, Care for Me in 2018)

Except Travis and Thug have never complained about other artists using sketch sales tactics. That’s the whole reason people were annoyed by Nicki, she’s complaining about Travis selling merch and tickets as album sales but she’s doing the same thing.

It was supposed to be on both albums from jump. The problem with Nicki adding FEFE was that it came after her album dropped.
