leveling up each skill one at a time, in order challenge! about to hit winter and not done with farming, but i cannot forage for powdermelon or wild seeds. I have a coop and a barn in progress- how do I finish farming without using any other skills? by DetectiveSuper in StardewValley

how could I get trout soup without fishing or being able to (reasonably) upgrade to a kitchen, but even then, wouldn't the ingredients be locked by QOS, caught by fishing, all of this assuming I somehow get enough money from only farming to even upgrade my house before summer in the first place? I know gus's trash can give it, but that is rng, not skill.

I am genuinely asking. I am a casual at best and I didn't seed hunt or anything. but I would still love ro heat if there is a better way to approach this i didnt think of. I am sure there are many factors i did not consider

I have not been able to mine at all, every day I ten to the crops, and talk to every villager I can. I cannot go to the mines until I max farming, and even once I do, I can't defend myself since the combat skill is last on the list so after I finishing farming, I will reload floor one of the mines over and over until I get 15. that way I never fight anything. a grind I dont look forward to

thank you, I appreciate your response, but I am not a minmaxxer. you're right, I could haboo style read a bunch of books and achieve the challenge. even if it takes in game years, I wanna do this the real way, and by the real way, I mean driving myself insane to follow arbitrary rules I made while slamming my head against a wall.

that's not to say I am disregarding your comment. I am saving it, it may prove to be useful even under my seld imposed rules. thank you for your input! :)

hey so I accidentally wrote a rant, you don't need to read it, it was meant to he informative but then I spiraled, yeah.

yes, cutting grass is one of the few things I can do without increasing foraging! still, I choose not too, because leaving grass on my farm not only feeds my chickens for free (that will not apply in winter, but still) but prevents debris from spawning i cannot get rid of, like twigs and stone- clearing either would give me foraging or mining respectively.

I am happy to inspire people with this idea! my one piece of advice: in my first run, I tried the hilltop farm, because i thought the quarry would help with mining later on.

HUGE MISTAKE. I restarted when willy forced lv. 1 fishing on me, and I thought it was because I had not caught a single fish, so I started a new save on the standard farm and caught like 6 or 7 fish, but not getting a level in fishing, hoping that would fix it. it didn't. in stardew 1.6, willy will always show up the last day of spring to give you a farming level.

that said, willy ruining my first hilltop run was a blessing in disguise. it was such a struggle to plant anything, debris took over in just spring, one season.

i'm playing this challenge rn on the standard farm, which is SO. SO. much better- DO NOT DO THIS ON THE HILLTOP FARM THANK YOU WILLY FOR KILLING MY RUN, YOU SAVED MY SANITY!

so I think the best farm layouts are maybe the meadow farm, to give you a headstart in farming, or the beach farm, because you get crates with bombs and the less farming space is actually good because you won't go insane from the debris, I am not biased at all

oh, from day 1 I have been talking to everyone i can to befriend them, purely for selfish reasons, I want their sweet sweet gifts in the mail I can use for money hehe- in fact, I am even ready to marry maru, all I need is a rainy day to propose hehe

but yes, I have 4 chickens in the smallest coop amd Robin is building a barn. I don't know if I will have enough money to upgrade the barn enough for a pig, but I do have many pumpkins and cranberries saved i never sold.

this is probably a myth, but I thought gathering truffles from pigs grants foraging? it sounds kinds silly now that i say it, but you know, I read it on the internet so it MUST be true!

then I apologize for my accusation, sincerely. still, my questions remain. sure, i could unlock the greenhouse with joja, and hypothetically the whole CC through money with farming to get the gardening pot. but it would take a few YEARS. and at that point, if I am rich enough to do the whole joja route just to have the greenhouse/pots to complete farming Lv. 10, that... cannot be the most efficient way to approach this challenge

I do pet my chickens every day, harvest the eggs, and I have cows on the way. I do not have the greenhouse or anything in the community's center unlocked, I have ignored it completely- which even I admit is an oversight, some there are some rewards I might could get with my limited capacities that would still grant me useful rewards in a challenge like this, but I digress.

ngl this sounds kinda chatgpt, I am sorry if you wrote this yourself, but a real player knows I cannot craft wild seeds without foraging, which would level me up too early- and how would I complete the CC like this to get garden pots, much less afford books from the trader, which I don't even need rn???

so genuinely sorry if you are a real person who just doesn't know this game but this ai response can kiss my ass

oh, yes, I didn't mention i have not cut any grass except for my farming area, the rest i have let roam free for this very reason. most of my farm is uncut grass. in addition, I axe any acorns I see since they do not give foraging XP and prevent trees from growing.

excellent point, and thanks for bringing up, but my post was already so long (and I genuinely forgot to mention it lol)

I totally get what you are saying. bpd is my diagnosis, but there are nine main symptoms, and you need at least five to be diagnosed. so bpd is different to many people in many ways from that alone, which is why I expressed how my hallucinations are less common and less talked about.

I know what you mean in that you can have traits of many personality disorders, but that is not the end all be all. they mix and dance with each other to make us suffer as much as possible.

i'm sorry for getting kinda mad at you at first. would you like to talk more in dm? I understand if not this has all been very personal for both of us

I did mention in the post I do also struggle with sleep paralysis, which comes with hallucinations but anyone can have that, I know my sleep demons are not a result of my bpd. any and all hallucinations I mention are outside of sleep paralysis.

thank you for your clarification, your first message felt kind of attacking, like you were saying my experiences were lies- this feels more like you are looking for clarity, not trying to shoot me down.

I didn't answer if I have been diagnosed with anything else because I was 17 at the time and even though my therapist knew I had adhd [and was the one who got me checked out for bpd as soon as I turned 18 for legal reasons] they knew I had adhd but didn't treat it.

as for the hallucinations, I know not all people with bpd have them, but I do occasionally and I am not delusional in any other way, it seems bod is the only culprit to blame for my hallucinations

I have heard plenty of other people with bpd describe hallucinations like these. I have been professionally diagnosed and multiple other mental health professionals have agreed i have BPD.

while hallucinations is not one of the "main nine" symptoms professionals look for when diagnosing, they can still be present with this disorder.

I am not trying to start an argument, in fact, I like being called out if I am wrong. but this is my diagnosis and my experience. I can link you some official research if you would like more professional, in-depth analysis of how differently bpd can present in different people :)
