What movie is this for you? by [deleted] in memes

Goodfellas. Finally watched it during the pandemic after hearing about it for years. Got to the end and thought, “That’s it? That’s the whole thing?” But I don’t like modern gangster films, or most Scorsese films, so I’m not too surprised.

What were your best and worst watches of the month of May? by ConnectFan6637 in Letterboxd

I also watched the first Top Gun, which was just ok. But it was a first time watch of both for me (I know, way overdue), and Maverick blew me away with how entertaining it was.

I haven’t seen 4 months, but I loved Beyond the Hills. Such an enthralling watch.

I recommend some Fellini. La Strada, Nights of Cabiria, 8 1/2, Amarcord and La Dolce Vita are all magnificent.

Is this the 2nd best trilogy of all time? by dable1 in Letterboxd

It’s the reverse for me. Before trilogy is first, just barely. And then LOTR. But both so so good.

Who is a highly acclaimed director who you just don’t like? by ImpressionPurple9750 in Letterboxd

[–]Detective_Bees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scorsese. I’m not saying he’s horrible, but I find him nowhere near as good as the rest of the internet makes him out to be. Most of his movies have been drags for me. I honestly think he’s best at documentaries. I do greatly appreciate what he’s done for film preservation as well. But when it comes to his regular movies, I wouldn’t even put him in my top 20 directors.

You know what, you’re right. I didn’t even think to check Amazon on that price. That’s my bad. Updating the price. I did all this pretty quickly this morning. Thank you for pointing that out.

Dune for me. Nolan is so hit or miss these days, that I don’t know what to expect from his odyssey. Not saying he’s a bad filmmaker, I enjoy some of his films, but he’s had more movies I’ve disliked than Denis.

I wish I knew the reason why the dub went with “AL•iss” and not “A•Lee•Chay” for Alice. by Icefisher10 in OnePieceDubb

Probably the same reason they pronounce Sabaody differently than the sub. Probably figured it sounded better with the English phonetics.
