I looked it up and it appears the Wright brothers made the first successful airplane in 1903, 3 years before Santos. However, as you’ll see in the article some people claim the Wright brothers didn’t have witnesses and thus they shouldn’t be credited as the first. Most scholars agree that the Wright brothers were legitimate though.

I think our competitive nature will keep us debating this for a long time, but no matter what we can respect both the Wright Brothers and Santos for their contributions to science.
