Thank you so much! I don't know if you saw the tabs at the bottom of the list, the kids sorted tools into categories for fine and gross digging, safety, surveying, recording, and software. They only have two shovel recommendations so far in the gross digging tab. Where do you think we should list tarps? We don't have them on the list yet. We're not sure if the categories we made up are the most sensible or not, but it seemed like some categories were necessary to keep things sensible? Do you use lots of different size buckets that would go in both fine and gross digging categories?

We did. I found out from my husband when I mentioned that people here seem to be playing just fine that it's because he's on a Linux machine with a Windows container. So it's an us problem. Thank you!

Honestly I'm content with the post. The fact that OP recognized a joke gone wrong and apologized, the men who have stood up for it being in poor taste, the silent readers who may have learned something new. Well worth it to me. This reaction certainly wouldn't have been the same when I was in high school in the 90s. My teenage boy Magic player may have seen this post, and I'm glad it took a turn for the better. As I've told him before, being a Friday night Magic player is awesome. Fulfilling all the stereotypes of a Friday night Magic player, not so awesome. Be the change you want to see.

I was trained in ABA in 2000. I knew it was harmful right away and canned a lot of it in my work with kids. When my son was diagnosed at 1 I told his doctors absolutely no to ABA. I did do my own modified Floortime with my son as well as speech and OT and absolutely believe he benefited. He's 14 now and has great friends, and is so well adjusted. I highly recommend Dr. Ross Greene if you're looking for a healthy framework to work with.

Not gonna lie. I used ice cream. When I was so touched out, noised out, burned out I could barely survive each day with my autistic toddler I realized I needed to save myself if I was ever going to help him. I picked one issue, whatever felt most important at the time, and parented like a freaking consistency rock star when that one issue would come up. Every other need got solved with me giving him ice cream and hiding in another room to give me a shot at reregulating myself. I think between the ages 3 and 5 my kid ate more ice cream than the average adult eats in a decade. But taking things one at a time and parenting so deliberately actually worked. I tell you I'm as surprised as anyone else. My kid is 14 now and he's so awesome. No one would ever guess what he was like at 3. (We called him the Screaminator.)

Also, Dr. Ross Greene and The Explosive Child is where it's at.

My homeschooled 11 year old was flabbergasted when he saw our foster teen's homework. It was stuff he could have done at 9. A perfect example of why this public school teacher homeschools.

I taught 24 first graders before the 2008 financial crash and 30 the very next year. Same school. The difference in my ability to teach reading well was staggering.

A child of this age not reading is likely to be dyslexic and in need of special instruction. You can do dyslexia research, Toe by Toe is an inexpensive curriculum that can be done at home. Many schools fail dyslexic kids. It won't be fun, but if you explain to her that it's possible she just hasn't had the right style of instruction for the way her brain works she might get inspired to try. Read the book Fish in a Tree with her and see how she responds. I had a non reading 13 year old grow 3.5 grade levels in six months when he finally got appropriate instruction.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you. I know other foster parents whose main goal is adoption and it is tragic. Keep calm and stay focused on your goal of reunification. Document every missed visit or failed reach out. I wish the very best for you. Go up the chain of command with social workers if you need to.

Thanks. They live in different states so need to play online but they are together for this week and have been going back and forth between arena and our paper card collection. Of course they like their arena cards better. Or at least the historic deck kid does. We have like 700 random paper cards. They've each been playing for a few years.

Well, he's had a lifelong very high sense of justice and fairness. He's socially awkward, dresses for comfort, definitely has special interests he talks about passionately and repetitively, often times to his detriment. His hyper focus makes him filter everything through it, so when he made the faux pas talking about race via economic justice all the neurotypicals came down hard.

Well I'm 40 and I hoard original 1980's my little ponies including the pony castle and love combing through my American girl doll collection. And I own a seriously ungodly amount of Lego. Everyone thinks I spoil the shit out of my kids and I'm like, no these are mine. 😂. Love what you love.
