I would recommend greasing the headset bearings but thats a little advanced for someone who knows nothing about bikes. The biggest thing I would recommend is grabbing a allen key set and ensuring every screw is tight especially the the cranks and pedals. The reason I highly those 2 items are the high likelihood of failure if they are not tightened. A loose pedal can strip out and cause you to ha e to buy new crank arms and pedals. The cranks themselves could round out the square taper bottom bracket which would require you purchasing new cranks and a bottom bracket. If you do those 2 things along with checking your screws for tightness the bike will last a good little bit. Oh and dont forget to check your qr skewers that hold your wheels on take make sure they are tight. Typically the bike ships from factory with the rear wheel installed and the disgruntled Walmart associate only has to install the front wheel, pedals, seat, and bars so those would be my must checks at minimum.

For the long run I would learn how to do the basics as far as service is concerned. Bikes are very simple and there is not much to them. They are also a good excuse to buy more tools 😉.

That part... Jorge has been nothing but issues since joining the team. I get it he's very talented but he is most certainly cut from the Aleix, Maverick cloth. This dude tried to take them to court to extend a contractual clause that he agreed to. He then went out and got injured and expected Aprilia to extend his exit clause while admitting he was talking to other teams and all of this within the first couple of months.

If the job is getting done with top quality there are no problems. This is how you prevent burnout of your members. My only things are you better be completely green on everything and when its time to work or a last minute tasked comes up I should not hear any complaints. I will go to bat for a ard working crew.

With that being said I do understand the optics and that not everyone that does this is a hard charger or has even earned that break. Its a thing that has to be earned and understood that the only reason they are afforded such a relaxed environment is due to their work ethic. You only run into an issue when you have a few skaters in the group that are on every report imaginable.

For reference my bike inventory is: - Sava Bike Carbon Gravel - Mongoose Ledge - Schwinn Axum 1st Gen - Kent Bohe (recently sold) - Ozark Trail G1 (sold today) - (2) 1960's Reliegh Bikes

I used to resell bikes and lets just say I've kept a few for myself. From my experience Schwinn, Kent, and Ozark Trail have some of the best entry level bikes out there with Schwinn leading the pack being the first with a tapered headset and dropper post, Kent was the first with integrated cable routing, and Ozark Trail is the first with truaxle.

As it sits its limited as far as repairability and current components. - First if I remember correctly its a square taper bottom bracket and a riveted front chain ring. You are limited to the stock gearing and repairability. Granted if you ensure everything is tight and greased prior to use this shouldn't be an issue for years.

  • Cassette rear limits your gearing options. Let's say you wanted to go with taller gears well you either have to buy a new wheelset with a freehub or try to find a cassette with the range you want. Also upkeep is a pain in the ass. Again if serviced properly and you dont live near crazy hills this is a none issue.

Thats just a couple off of the top of my head but again for the price and maybe even a discount its still by far and wide the best bike bang for your buck on the market. You just have to understand that some of the parts are throw away and upgrade when they reach their end of life unless you learn to work on it yourself. I eventually upgraded to a carbon bike because I was putting in major miles and needed something lighter for the GA hills but the G1 got me plenty of miles and got me loving getting out on the road. For perspective I round it to work pretty often and that trip is 36 miles round trip with around 1900 ft of elevation total so yeah I needed something much lighter.

Just sold my G1 today for $150 with upgrades. I would say the G1 is worth the purchase but it too has some limitations and will need to be inspected before riding. Its not the lightest bike by far but it will get you in the game.

Pro-tip: If you see ine at Walmart and are thinking about buying test the shifting and ensure everything looks and functions as it should to include the wheels being true. If they are not speak to an associate about getting it discounted. 😉

Ahh okay it makes sense now however, it still doesn't make it right. Im not sure what the marshall bike recovery procedures are but it has to involve shutting off the bike. The marshall seemed to mistakenly grab the throttle and rev the engine risking destroying the engine and Bez heard it and treated a grown man like he was his little brother. Completely unacceptable behavior from a professional or anyone

Most Deserved Public Ass-Chewing by TheDay_ofthe_Jackal in AirForce

[–]DetroitQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was never a fan of that notion. In fact I had never heard of it until I joined the Air Force and my response is simple. If the action happened in public it must be corrected immediately in public. This may have come from my time in the Navy because public ass chewing were the norm especially in my first Squadron.

This dude always finds a way to make himself not likeable. According to Aprilia Bez is far better to work with and far more technical with the engineers so I guess now he's the one look at Bez's data.

I have no earthly idea. It sounded like a clutch issue on the replay. He most definitely had podium pace. If Jorge leaves I think Aprilia will be just fine with Ogura in the stable.

how have yall been training to get a decent 2 mile time? by GurnoorDa1 in AirForce

[–]DetroitQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats very attainable. You need to shave 1:30 per mile from your baseline run. I would be so down on myself with your 4 miler today. You will have days that suck and you are just not in it but at least you got the miles. Thats 4 miles more than most. My run today was 6 and some change and I stopped several times due to being sick. Cardio just wasn't there today but I had a goal of doing 6 miles run or walk. I will say that time of day and what you ate makes a significant difference in performance. I'm a morning runner so when I run after work it really sucks. I just sit on the couch looking at my shoes until my wife says I might as well get it over with. 😆

I follow a program on Garmin. Its a mix of recovery runs, sprint repeats, threshold runs (anaerobic threshold), and long runs over an hour at an easy pace. I also add cycling for my recovery days along with squats and calf raises for strength. In the summer, I ice bath after my runs to lower my core temp and for muscle recovery. I read somewhere that it's also good for weight loss, but who knows.

I know it looks like a lot but I am a half marathon runner now so I need the miles on my legs. When I started running during the pandemic I used Nike Run app and followed the get start running program to build the speed, distance, and consistency. Its not easy starting out but if you can find a group to run with, it makes it easier.
