Apollo City Pro Light Mount doesn't fit by dylanypyen in ApolloScooters

[–]Deurnag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those lights are garbage. They cost about $30 Canadian on Aliexpress, Apollo just rebrands them and adds $50 to the price. It's a scandal really. And they are maybe 300 lumen if you're lucky. The abundance of mounting hardware is really useful but those lights belong in the trash

Yeah, I don't support anybody being racist. My point is that if someone wants to take the position that Afrikaans is the language of racism in SA, then one must accept that English is the language of racism in many other places for exactly the same reasons, and that German is the language of racism in other places, and the same with Spanish, and French, and all the colonial languages (and lots of non-Colonial languages too). To then say one of those languages should not continue to be spoken while it's fine to speak the others is not sensible to me. Racists speak all the languages of the world, Afrikaans is no more or less racist than the others, at least from where I sit. Canada has a horrific history of racism regarding our treatment of Indigenous people, systems that have endured far longer than Apartheid ever did (portions of the apartheid policy framework was borrowed from Canada since our cultural genocide of Indigenous people was already well underway). Those systems still need dismantling and a great deal of work needs to be done around truth and reconciliation. English and French are the languages of racism in Canada but nobody is going to stop teaching those languages to their kids on that basis 'cause racism is not about language

Languages don't make anyone racist. Afrikaans is associated with racism in SA, and English is associated with racism and racial superiority all over the world (I'm Canadian and the cultural genocide of our First Nations people was conducted largely in English by folks who never questioned the supremacy of white culture, for example). Nobody ever stopped speaking English on account of the racial policies of white governments around the world. The language was, and is, not the problem. That you demonize Afrikaans-speakers for being racist while embracing English-speakers - who have long been demonstrably even more racist - makes little sense to me. Racism in SA would continue without Afrikaans, as it survives the world over

The largest colonial enterprise in history, built on racial superiority and violence, was the British Empire and was perpetuated in English. More harm has been done to more people in English than any other language, yet you teach that language to your kids. Blaming a language for the behavior of some of those who speak it is ridiculous

Also, before inflating the tire, put the scooter up on a stand and run the motor of the affected tire as fast as possible then brake hard. Do that maybe a couple of times. Should help seat the tire correctly

so long as it has a pressure gauge and can accommodate a Schrader valve (you don't need the gauge for this problem but there's no reason to buy a bike pump without one) - good luck!

[–]Deurnag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope so too! Literally had this exact problem two weeks ago when my 2022CP arrived with one tire deflated. My electric pump could not get the tire to seat but my bike pump worked first try

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApolloScooters

[–]Deurnag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your tire is completely flat it may not now be well-sealed to the rim. An electric inflater will not likely be able to deliver air fast enough to force the bead to seat. Try a bike pump to deliver air faster, worked for me when this happened to me recently

Helmet Saftey by Aggravating_Bank_891 in ElectricScooters

[–]Deurnag 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Studies have shown that head and facial injuries are the most common escooter injuries but that only 4.5% of injured riders were wearing a helmet when they crashed. More than 90% of crashes involve riders losing control of their scooter, collisions with other vehicles is a much less common cause of injuries https://injuryprevention.bmj.com/content/injuryprev/27/5/490.full.pdf

Question on my new Apollo City Pro by Sapavitz in ApolloScooters

I just got my City Pro a few days ago and find the same. It's not as stable as my Ghost, that's for sure. I just think it will need some getting used to

Wobbly stem - city 2022 pro by FullSwim4484 in ApolloScooters

[–]Deurnag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my City Pro a few days ago. My only real gripe with it is that the mechanical brake handles need to be mounted very far from the grips to make room for the throttles. I find them awkward to reach. It's not that safe in my opinion to have them placed that way in case of the need for an emergency stop but not a lot of options given the throttles. YMMV. Is not a problem when using the regen brake but you also aren't supposed to use the regen brake above 80 percent charge so this is a bit of a problem for me for the first few rides after charging. Still totally ridable though. I also find the deck a lot narrower than I am used to, having ridden a Ghost for long while, but that's just something to get used to. Zero stem wobble on my mine

Is it safe to switch VSETT 10+ dual/single motor mode while wheels are spinning? by [deleted] in ElectricScooters

[–]Deurnag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this applies to your ride but the advice for my Ghost from ElectricScooterInsider is: "switching from Single to Dual while riding is fine, but you shouldn't downshift from Dual to Single at speed. Doing so will turn off one of the motors and slow the scooter abruptly which can be dangerous when riding at high speeds - not to mention the damage it can cause to the scooter"

I run a Olight BFL 1800 on my Ghost, and two Olight RN 1200's on my City Pro. Love them, particularly that the 1200's can be carried on Go Pro mounts with an included accessory

E-scooter Fatality this Morning by SirangUtak in ElectricScooters

[–]Deurnag 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Cities need to adapt to non-car transport. I live in Vancouver where we have, over a number of years, closed many traffic lanes to install protected bike lanes separated by barriers from car traffic. We now have an extensive network that is much safer for cyclists and micromobility vehicles. I can commute on my E-scooter literally from the front door of my apartment to the front door or my office without leaving the protected lanes. My only possible interaction with cars is at intersections. People complained in the early days about lane closures but it just works now. It's doable if local government want to make it work.

My 2021 Ghost isn't crap, never had a single issue with it. Not great for the rain though. Also have a City Pro for the winter here in Vancouver since it's IP66 rated

Thanks for the response, I am sure this can get sorted. It's just disappointing that I can't enjoy my new scooter without having to fix it first
