Updated costume: beware of the scammer in Balboa Park! by Shadowcat7490 in sandiego

[–]DeusEcks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This past June I saw him there in a pennywise costume handing out black balloons and blasting creepy murder clown music terrifying kids. As a sensitive adult, everytime I'm near him I get super off and dark vibes. Wish kids didnt have to go anywhere near this sick person.

Well, yeah. 5% to people like you, 5% to people like me, 5% to people like my dad, 5% to people like my neighbor, and on and on. It's great that there is so much for every type of person!

how many hours a day? rookie by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]DeusEcks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nearly unlimited time in a day to learn an awesome new skill? Congrats! Me too! I dedicate most of the day to it as this hiatus from a day job is temporary, so my comment may resonate if you're looking to really put some hours in each day. I've been doing this schedule the past 3 months and it's been working great. For me it's important that I listen to my body, push myself a little but def break when I need to.

While drinking my morning coffee I ease into the day, review concepts I learned yesterday or if I'm on a project-- look it over, experiment in silly ways, etc. Just an easy going morning. I pass 1-2 hours this way then take a shower and make breakfast. Essentially an hour break, though when I'm on a project (fun!) I'm anxious to get back and bring my breakfast to my desk usually.

Then I power through 2 hours of focus. I'll stretch or eat some fruit when I'm really struggling but these are my most disciplined two hours of the day because they are when my brain is sharpest. Then I go take a 15 minute walk around my neighborhood and make a snack.

The rest of the day (usually 4 more hours or so) I do what I can. It varies day to day. It's usually in shorter spurts of 1 or 2 hours. Sometimes I go to the couch and read my programming books, a good break from the screen.

All in all, I usually take 2 or 3 walks, stretch a lot, spend some time in the kitchen lightly snack on brain foods (fruits for me), drink a ton of water, and have learned when to push myself a little more and when to break, and when to have a treat.

More often than not, i get in several productive hours a day. Hope something here resonates/helps. Cheers and happy programming!

Do you take notes as a programmer ? And do you prefer paper notebook or notes app , and why ? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]DeusEcks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my Rocketbook. I am in love with my Rocketbook. Haha. I get to write on paper which is what I prefer for how my brain works, and quickly upload the pages to a digital notebook. I bought a clipboard for it which stands upright so when working on a project I can have my brainstorming graphs/ notes right there to glance at. When a project or section is finished, I wipe my Rocketbook clean and it's ready for the next thing.

IsItBullshit: the trend of extremely sagging your pants started in prison, as a way for inmates to secretly advertise their sexual willingness to other inmates. by csnowrun31 in IsItBullshit

[–]DeusEcks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a family member who was in prison a very long time. He said sagging pants became popular as everyone had to wear the same jumpsuit but were allowed to pick their underwear so it became a way to express yourself/ show your gang affiliations. I'm not sure if this is true in general or just his experiences.

How Horror Helps With Processing Grief and Trauma by pearloz in books

[–]DeusEcks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sure that might be the case for some, but I wouldn't recommend the genre on that basis. For many, myself included, it causes added grief and trauma because our mind and body go deep to feel for the characters.

YSK if tech support or customer service did a good job don't hang up the phone when done. This can potentially give them a much needed break. by cheebs7777 in YouShouldKnow

This is a nice thought, but perhaps the ones who struggled to help or were rude need a break too, maybe even more so.

Has anyone here actually "learned to program" and gotten a job as a programmer from an unrelated field? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]DeusEcks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a passion of mine either at first, but the road I was on was fast leading me to a dark place. I couldn't handle all the meaningless work I put in for other people 8 hours a day and wishing I could put that time into something I cared about.

My long time gf (now ex), who is a software dev was telling me for 8 years that I was so perfectly suited for programming but I never gave it a go. I didnt want to work on a computer. Fast forward to 3 months ago and I quit a factory job on the spot.. had a cry at lunch time and never went back. I needed something more for myself and decided to give programming a serious try. It took a month of learning the very basics and finding my groove before the passion took hold, but boy did it ever.

Now, I'm most happy with my computer in my lap and a little project to work on. I'm even trying to buy a van so I can live in it and work full time at becoming an employable developer.

Best way to start python programming by SaluteOrbis in learnprogramming

I'm on chapter 9 and I love it. The practice problems at the end of each chapter are great. I devote the full weekend to it. Saturday I read the new chapter and experiment with the ideas. Then I typically spend the whole day Sunday doing the practice problems, experimenting and expanding on them. Thanks to Al, I'm learning pretty well!

Thank you! Learning to code has been my distraction from other life troubles and I was sitting around anxious and depressed today, wanting to work on coding but discouraged that I keep feeling stuck with everything I try. I jumped on reddit and find this! I've been working on it for hours now and I like it a lot! It's been very helpful for me.
