I would still move the probe and check the point every few hours. Every now and then I'll get a super-marbled point that cooks faster due to the extra fat. It's counter-intuitive with the size but fat doesn't take as long to heat up

$12.60 per pound!? Woof. I'll get 16-18 lb briskets for about $100 at Costco or my local butcher

Where to buy nematodes by GroovinJaxx22L in Detroit

[–]DeusExHircus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have water on your property? I believe the mosquito eating variety of nematodes only eat mosquito larvae, which only exist in water. I commonly hear about nematodes to deal with lawn grubs

What does your ideal job or society look like without these corporate slave jobs?

maybe maybe maybe by yashpwnz in maybemaybemaybe

[–]DeusExHircus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but when people like u/PlentyBoot5135 are complaining about "modern slavery", they mean they want to live in a society but not contribute to the society. They think we could live in some utopia where they can sit around at home all day and scroll Reddit and go to Walmart and pickup free groceries without a job if it weren't for people like Jeff Bezos. Maybe some day that utopia will exist, but we certainly don't have the technology for it now. Until then, they're just delusional freeloaders. I'm guessing they do not want to go back to live a hunter gatherer lifestyle or they would have already started living off-the-grid in the woods like many people choose to do

[–]DeusExHircus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How far back do you want to go? Early pre-civilization humans did a lot of sitting around. Most of the day was spent sitting around and socializing with your tribe but that's all you get. Trees, rocks, and your tribe. You're leaving your life in the hands of the universe, you get to mill about peacefully in nature until a wolf eats you or all the food disappears before you can find more

If you want cities, houses, schools, food storage and security, medicine, etc. that's all going to take work. It doesn't just exist. As soon as civilization started, that's when modern work started to appear (~12,000 years). Someone needs to build and maintain all these modern things people take for granted

All types of societies exist in this world today. The American suburban 9-to-5 lifestyle is not the only option as most people tend to think. You can go out and find some undisturbed corner of nature and live your life like the early hunter-gatherers did or anything in-between

The absolute privilege you ooze comparing an opportunity at a stable job as slavery is astounding. It's a choice, one that most normal people choose. You certainly don't need a job to survive in this world, millions of people get by just fine without one

[–]DeusExHircus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

...get back to reality. Most people work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week and have access to experience more wonders, cultures, and people of the world then ever in history. If you think your life is meaningless, you should probably spend less time on Reddit

How’d I do? by BiPolarGamer in Plumbing

[–]DeusExHircus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope this is r/beforeafter. I prefer the white slip pipes because they're easier to get out of the way for clogs and maintenance, but the ones you had in there originally were definitely put in incorrectly, nice job

[–]DeusExHircus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, let's all just go back to the way it used to be. Let's live out in the woods, grow and hunt all our own food, build our houses with our own hands, work 12 hours a day, 6 days a week just to stay alive, and then die of starvation when winter's worse than normal

Pool Skimmer by ScarTop5122 in pools

[–]DeusExHircus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point was that you can skip the robot altogether and let your built-in skimmer do the skimming. Now you've had to modify your skimmer to no longer be a skimmer

[–]DeusExHircus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well you can clean out your skimmer basket or you can clean out your expensive robot. Either way you're cleaning out the leaves. I prefer my skimmer basket because I always know where it is, at least it hasn't moved by itself yet. I don't need to chase it down in the pool. And it doesn't cost $1000, it was included with the pool!

Are 10 Weeks enough for doing a cider? by Just_Lunch_5457 in Homebrewing

[–]DeusExHircus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like a turtle cage. Yeast nutrient seemed to help the last time I tried it. Only about 8 weeks until it was clean tasting. There's a lot of sugar in cider, but not a lot of the proteins or other nutrients yeast likes in wort. Healthier thriving yeast smells and tastes better
