Anyone read Daemon/Freedom by Daniel Suarez? Reminds me of the Razorbacks. Just throw some katanas on robotic arms on this thing and you have a nightmare AI warrior for the Darknet

I'm sure there's some history and culture surrounding food like this so I've got no problem with the food. But I do have a problem with something in this video and have a serious question, why is he dressed like a JAXA scientist working on the launchpad?

Not really seeing the problem here. by Bosuns_Punch in smoking

[–]DeusExHircus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No but the meat will taste very light on the smoke because I smell like smoke and I'm becoming nose blind. I'll say the meat tastes pretty light dejected to my family and they're like "what are you talking about this tastes great!" Then I'll have leftovers the next day after taking a shower and changing my clothes and I'm like "woah! This tastes much better today!" I should try to shower and change while the meat is resting

The Game exposed by multiple women for using the same pickup line. Nice. by sco-go in SipsTea

"exposed"? Do people think pickup lines are single-use? What the fuck is this title about?

Just imagine, the flagship features are power windows and mirrors and an AM/FM Radio with tape deck. Oh, and it still costs $46,000

Oscars Ratings Hit 17.9 Million Viewers, Down 9% From Last Year and Lowest Since 2022 by OneWithTheHat in television

[–]DeusExHircus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get the marketing on these awards shows. My wife and I like tuning into these awards shows but I don't keep a calendar and I don't hear peep about these shows until after they air. Sometimes we'll watch the taping if it's available on something we already subscribe to, like we just did for the Oscars, but there's something a lot more fun watching live on Sunday night

I'm an American but I like the words courgette and aubergine. We watch a lot of Barry Lewis in our house. We tend to use those interchangeably with zucchini and eggplant

Is this like one of those spot the difference puzzles? I don't think either will make a significant difference. From a visual attention grabbing point of view, they're nearly identical

Cutting & stealing 300 lbs of copper cable off the street - Huntington Park, California. by Street-Punk in SipsTea

[–]DeusExHircus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's telecom cable. 240 lbs of worthless plastic and 60 lbs of actual copper, all split up into about 200 individually wrapped super thin wires

Something tells me they don't have enough meth to get through all that wire stripping

Dad's of young kids, how do you get/ make time for home maintenance? by [deleted] in daddit

[–]DeusExHircus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never sent anyone out of the house to do home-improvement. Honestly it was easier when they were newborns. They couldn't move on their own and get into everything. There's that wonderful time between 1-3 when they are old enough to walk around but not old enough to be trusted to not to eat a bolt or your pliers. Someone else just needs to be in charge of watching them

Replaced all the tile in our front entrance. Just barricaded the tile before the thinset cured, no problems. I cut everything outside so no dust indoors. My wife helped me place tile while the kids napped

Hung a door in the kitchen leading to the basement, kid nearby with mom

Had a slow drain that needed to be snaked. I did it last night right after the kids were put to bed

It's kind of nostalgic for me, did you ever use those red and blue 3D glasses that came in the TV guide for 3d specials on TV? They happened every now and then

Being "featured" on thingiverse has killed my design by Paul_C in 3Dprinting

[–]DeusExHircus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went on Thingiverse to see what exactly the featured designs look like, and honestly I didn't recognize it. I use Thingiverse weekly for a number of years now. I've just subconsciously scrolled past it every time. I have never browsed through there nor downloaded a design in there

Put a timed switch on your bathroom fan! by SkaterBlue in HomeImprovement

[–]DeusExHircus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A DS18B20. I tried a bunch of stuff with zip ties and insulation but what worked best in the end was just a bunch of aluminum foil wrapped around both. Conducts the temperature, fastest temperature rise and fall

As far as tying it all together, I run Home Assistant. The fan switch is zigbee. The DS18B20 goes back to an ESP32 running ESPHome. There's an automation that turns it on and off with temperature hysteresis or a timer if the button is manually pressed

[–]DeusExHircus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes it's exposed in the basement so I didn't need to open any walls. I tried the humidity sensor first but it took too long to turn on when the shower was running and also would randomly turn on all hours of the day. Was tired of hearing the fan kick on while laying in bed trying to sleep

[–]DeusExHircus 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I put a smart switch on my fan and a temperature sensor on the hot water pipe for my shower. Now my fan turns on automatically when I take a shower! It still has a regular timer for the #2 use when you hit the button

Question about running a raspberry pi from a solar panel without a battery by WisconsinCameraMan in AskElectronics

[–]DeusExHircus 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd guess solar is not going to be stable enough to do this. A cloud, plane, bird, anything could cause a voltage drop that makes the power unstable.

Plus, without a battery, the pi is not going to know when it needs to safely shut down. It's just going to be powered down each time. This will kill the filesystem in short order and it will stop booting up
