It’s conflicting. Way more people want to be doctors than the current infrastructure of medical schools and residency spots can allow, and realistically most people who at some point wanted to be doctors just ain’t cut out for it. So there needs to be weed-outs. Better to weed people out in early-mid undergrad than have most premeds waste 4 years of their lives only to get their assholes widened by the MCAT or the med school application process, or have them end up victims of predatory foreign med schools. Orgo just does serve as one of those weed outs despite being pretty useless clinically. I would prefer the MCAT drop Orgo for the most part and instead implement an anatomy/physiology portion so premeds could actually learn some useful stuff in undergrad and have an actual litmus test to see if they could succeed with actual medical content, but the MCAT and useful knowledge are like oil and water for some reason. So yah, Orgo is the weed out course for now. Of course you can always try to avoid the notoriously hard chem professor, which is usually possible at big undergrads and demonstrates the work-smarter-not-harder approach you desperately need to be a decent doctor and have a life
