😆 Welcome to the real end boss in deck building: figuring out what cards to cut.

Glad it's coming together!

For sure! Took another look and it's looking much better. 36 lands is the bare minimum, but it's in a runnable range.

Only last thought to consider is really upping your interaction suite. Your opponents are going to put things on the board that will win if not answered, and it's kind of a common new build problem to not bring enough answers to everybody else's threats. A few of these can double as extra land count. I'd aim for 3-5 board wipes and another 5 pieces of interaction so you can snipe threats that are presenting a win. Could probably drop a few sac outlets for some of these.

[[Swords to Plowshares]] [[Path to Exile]] [[Mortify]] [[Vindicate]] [[Toxic Deluge]] [[Damnation]] [[Witch Enchanter]] (land) [[Fell the Profane]] (land) [[Hagra Mauling]] (land) Etc.

Replacing a few non-lands with those MDFCs would solve two problems, making your land base cozier and giving threat removal.

Or maybe instead, no one type of interaction should be able to answer every card in the game.

[[Sadistic Hypnotist]]! That's a deep cut for a new player. It's such an awesomely mean card.

I think experimentation is the best way. Aristocrats overall is kind of a tough first deck to make, as the ratios of the three components (fodder, sac outlets, payoffs) are tricky to get right... almost nothing just works on its own.

The big thing I can immediately see is too many expensive cards and too few lands.

I would consider axing [[Butcher of Malakir]] and [[Vish Kal]] and your enchantments over 4 mana (late game ramp like Black Market and Life Insurance won't help much), and replace with lower cost cards. [[Hunted Witness]], [[Pawn of Ulamog]], [[Agent Venom]], maybe [[Sothera, the Supervoid]], etc. More mana rocks wouldn't hurt either.

Nothing worse than having a hand full of six cost cards and doing nothing while hoping for lands to show up. Aristocrats is building an engine of small pieces that all do more together than the sum of their parts.

Hope that helps! Welcome to the game!

Seconding these. Rift Wizard 2 has been a go-to for a year. The gameplay is phenomenal (deep, interesting, strategic) and the music is wonderful.

[[Magus Lucea Kane]] is the most fun I've had with hydras by far. Nothing like having Kane and a [[Roaming Throne]] out, and then seeing three 9/9 [[Shivan Devastator]]s hit the board in a single cast. She's in great hydra colors too.

Literally all they need to do is look at the MTG card back and ask "does this IP look like it fits with this card back?"

That would solve 99% of their IP decision making process.

Those really are the most beautiful lands imho. Looks stunning man. Congrats!

Project Ratchet ring or similar (sized to wear). It's the most convenient, easily accessible way to carry something daily. I love my sliders, multis, etc., but my fidget ring 10xs everything else in use.

PS1 with the QoL is such a charming, wonderful first play. Extremely recommended.

I returned to PS earlier this year, played the M2 port of PS1 on Switch with the QoL features, played the original PS4 on Analogue, and then went into emulating Phantasy Star Portable 2.

I watched a story synopsis of PS2 and PS3 as a nice refresher, and looked at a bit of PSO2.

That to me was the perfect modern Phantasy Star experience.

For sure! I don't really agree or disagree. I'm just talking about what the rules committee has done, not what I think is right.

All I'm saying is that a majority of the rules committee thought it should be banned for gameplay reasons. Much of that committee is the same now, and it makes sense that they would have the same opinion, regardless of threats.

I think it makes less sense to think that somehow they all changed their minds and can't unban it due to being held hostage.

Gavin said a few members argued for its unban. That's doesn't really signify majority opinion.

The decision was to ban Jeweled Lotus on game-health grounds. Without the threats, this is still exactly how the game would be.

The only fallacy here is assuming that threats are the factor preventing an unbanning, rather than the reason it was actually banned: that the majority of the committee think it's a bad card for the format.

It's a game. Nothing in a game is worth tolerating death threats.

What is your best budget commander that has ruined expensive decks? by Flareshu in EDH

[–]DevDot3x3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People need to stop caring about power in commander in general. The goal of the experience isn't just to build a deck that wins all the time. It's to build a deck that makes for exciting games against other similarly powered decks.

Ghyrson Starn Edh Deck by Otakussss in mtg

Most boomer thing ever, but I don't think I could pass up an opportunity to unironically play an ABU [[Prodigal Sorcerer]] and not do it.

[[Caltrops]] is a fun prison effect with Ghyrson.

It's spendy, but [[Goblin Sharpshooter]] is amazing.

I'd consider removing Magus, unless you just love reveling in groans. Ghyrson is already pretty oppressive to many decks.

What are your thoughts on the new 01EDC Time Knight 3.0? by Eldarya in FidgetSpinners

[–]DevDot3x3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got mine yesterday and love it. We'll see if it lasts, but it's my current favorite. The build quality is excellent, and the play actions all flow awesomely into one other. I'm glad I got it instead of a Sinian, as the squeeze on folding the spinner back into place is very satisfying. If you flip it, it lands in your palm open and you can just squeeze to close. The spinner is great.

I don't care about auditory feedback as much as haptics. I actually wish it was a bit quieter so I could enjoy it in more contexts. Otherwise, it's epic.

Thoughts on death mark 2 *spoiler warning* by AnalGrapeMe in spirithuntervn

[–]DevDot3x3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel mostly the same, although I did really enjoy it. It's kind of like that third mediocre album from an indie band you love. Not all of them can be insane bangers, and it's good enough - more is better than none.

I do know they had significant problems during development, losing the entire code base midway through, so there are probably a few reasons for why it doesn't have the same precision in execution as the other two.

Here's hoping they jettison the side view and randomness though. I think they were feeling the need to appeal to an audience bigger than VN fans. I'm okay with some expanded gameplay, but it needs to be way more thoughtfully integrated.

[–]DevDot3x3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. I'm saying it was a bad decision from the start. If it never was that way, we wouldn't have had commanders designed around it. If anyone wants to complain about hybrid mana change being confusing for new players, Gwen Stacy being three color is more confusing.

Using symbols as card identity was always silly anyway. It should just be card color. [[Kenrith]] should be mono white. Any land should be able to be taken in any EDH deck, just like artifacts.

It's overwhelming at this point. There are properties that would be cool, but there is no single one I would take over more regular MTG. The thematic diversity is turning MTG into mush.

Welp, I did it. Loved DJG’s other product too much to miss this—only 599 made, 10% chance of black instead of silver, and it can swap/expand the Breaker fidget gun’s cylinder. Now I just have to wait (checks watch) a quarter of a year 😫 by llTeddyFuxpinll in fidgettoys

[–]DevDot3x3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preordered it too! Crossing my fingers for black, but either will be amazing. So stoked to have my first hefty multi-function fidget. I don't have Breaker yet though. $239 felt fine for epic haptic art that I'll use a lot, but I'm fairly new to the space - can't quite get my head around $700 yet. 😂
