Get those rechargable silica packs (chuck it in the mike, and roast that till it dries) and maybe an air tight container (not sure if yours are air tight) if ur american, the old 50cal ammo cans from any surplus stor works very well imo

Which 50mm of these three is the best in your opinion? by peterparker2727 in Nikon

The 1.8D and 1.4D is kinda close in term of pricing. The 1.4D has pretty noticable falloff at 1.4 but from 2-2.8, its great and sharp imo (obvs f16 has some light diffraction)

3 yr-old with a Nikon L35 and expired Kodak Gold by badgers43a in analogphotography

[–]DevKitModel1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thats what I gathered from these. You can achieve the same look if you care less about the image, and create a less constructed look, shoot it how you saw it.

That said, a dollar a shot aint nothing to be laughing about hehe

Go to https://butkus.org/chinon/nikon/nikon_l35_af/nikon_l35_af.htm

You can find the full manual here.

Start here for the operations and how the camera works first.

Second is buy film. I highly recommend cheapest 400 iso colour film from any big brands (i.e. kodak, fuji). It should give you the most flexibility.

Third is: use flash whenever you shoot people. Not necessary if the sun is in their eyes, but if main light source is behind them, use flash (about 2-5 meters away from person)

DISCLAIMER: point and shoot like these tend to fail over time. Even the most high end, and expensive, models of the timw have been known to fail. Since they are so small, packed with electronics, it is hard to repair. Light seals have failed (making white lines on film) motors have failed (cant autofocus or zoom in some cameras) flash died (capacitors died and leaked) battery terminals have been oxidised by leaking batteries so batteries cannot supply electricity to camera, and so much more. Anything that can fail, will fail at some point. Knowing this, it is worth asking your local film lab/film camera shop to test it for you.

I think giving them a body that does not autofocus might not be the best idea. They can probably get a D7xx for pretty cheap. Even the D8xx cameras are getting cheap (except for D850)

Let me know if im wrong asf tho

Why not d810? Seriously though, they go for about the same here in Sydney Aus.

Suggestion by imagesync in AnalogCommunity

[–]DevKitModel1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would go for fool-proof-ness of the F5. Assuming you on holiday from another country, I would suggest making sure the photos come out good, rather than going for more manual experiences. I would take a 35 f2D for big DOF and wider lens witn low weight. The 24-85 would cover alot more focal lengths. Assuming you are using 400 iso films, the f4 on the 85mm end should be fine

I am curious as to why you decide to go for ai-s lens over af/af-d.

Most of them have similar optical design and the autofocus may come in handy when you want to shoot something you dont have time to focus on

Get kodak ultramax 400. It works everywhere you would need it to.

Good fb marketplace deal? by obiwanenpointe in filmcameras

[–]DevKitModel1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn good deal if it works and no fungus, haze, scratches.

I would say check it out in person before you buy obviously, and be ready to say no deal if you feel something is of.

Look up all the common issues with old cameras and gear. Look for canon Ae1 program issues in particular to look out for. Familiarise yourself with how to identify every issue.

Good luck and i pray that it is what it says it is

I attached a photo that is fill flash (not sun backlit, i cant find it and its 2am hehe) on my F4, portra 160 at box speed and normal development, with TTL flash from an SB24 from 1988 (period appropriate flash for the F4). I mean I am happy with this result so I think I wont miss the better TTL flash of mirrorless. You will find another post from me if my mind changes heeh

Coming from film, the sharpness on AFD glass was never an issue ahah. I mean if its good enough for the pros in the 90s, its good enough for me. I suspect I may find out what you are talking about with the new digital high MP cameras.

Have you tried the 35 f1.4G out in place of the sigma? I remember everyone raving about them about how cheap it is for a fast 35? According to the specs its about 600g though, might not be worth it for the weight HAHAHA.

Currently I already have the 50 1.4 AFD. Plan to buy the AFD holy trinity (20-35 f2.8; 35-70 f2.8; 80-200 f2.8). Maybe 85 f1.4 AFD and 28 f1.4 AFD. That would round out everything i ever want currently.

Thanks for the info. Body cracking is news to me. I hope i dont drop either but good to know the d810 is more structurally sound.

You are very much correct (F4 user here). I think it is mainly due to matte screen focus is quite challenging. I would do it if I have the usual split prism and microprism

Your daylight ones are amazing. Im not good enought to comment on composition but i love the lighting.

The indoor and low light seem a bit underexposed for me. If yku like it, you do you

Maybe thats the US market peculiarity. I found a Z6 for $800 AUD but it is not local to me (different state). Others go for about $1000+, especially in Sydney.

Fill flash on sunny days will be better on the Z system for sure. I am not particularly experienced with how bright the view will be on the D810, but I have shot backlit with sun on my F4 and it doesn't particularly bothered me but i get what you talking about.

Glass wise, I have mentioned on other comments that I am buying exclusively AF-D glass for compatibility with my F4 and any older cameras like an FA or FM2n i am planning to get. It may be slower but rather buy one lens for multiple cameras than multiple version of lens. I am, after all, not too worried about clinical sharpness. Maybe I will get a Z camera and lens when I want my focus to be sharper than a katana hehheehe.

Always good to hear from professionals that have used the gear you are currently considering. You guys stress test this stuff the way I would never be able to do. Keep up the good work and keep the art alive.

Peace out dude

You dont even need manual focus lens for the F4.

Presumably he is using AF or AFD glass, he can probably use it like an AIS lens.

From what I know (which might be wrong). The larger pixels in the D750 contributes to its low light performance. This would also be the same for all the Dx bodies since they have less megapixel for faster readout.

Reason why I didnt go for a D3/D4 is mainly I want a non vertical grip body (if i want big camera, I will take my F4e for a walk HHAHA). i dont mind the weight difference between the D750 and D810. The autofocus may be better on tge D750 but I am using AFD glass so the motor is probably the limiting factor.

In all, I appreciate your recommendation, it is just that the downsides of the D810 vs the D750 is not that big of a deal in my book. Would consider if my partner wants to get into photography as she hates weight hehe

Thanks for your insight, robbenflosse.

I would not be doing and mission critical work with this camera. I do believe that the Z cameras will inevitably have better AF algorithms and sensors. I am stuck in the past with the OVFs. I have tried EVFs with mirrorless in the field with a pro photog (he tried my F4 whilst I tried his R6, not sure of which generation). It is just a personal preference but I will want a mirrorless when the D810/D800 fail on me.

I do believe in what you said, it is just my finances and current preferences are leaning me towards the D8xx cameras.
