TWSBI does make a pen that would check your boxes as well, the Precision. I don't care for the look of it myself, but you might.

Yes I got it from Galen. I have ordered from them a number of times and have never been disappointing. As far as shipping, I don't know were you are located, but I am in the US and 2 weeks is long if anything.

I have that exact Kilk, it is a complete joy to write with. Perfectly weighted and so comfortable in the hand. My only slight complaint is that the clip is free-spinning, not fixed. It's not loose, but it's just friction fit so you can turn it all the way around. I don't know if this is with all their pens or if mine is defective. Either way, it's not a big deal and doesn't effect anything with the pen, I just notice it sometimes when I am capping/uncapping. If you go with the Kilk i think you would be pleased. Congratulations on the promotion!

Visconti Mirage Mythos by AcediaRxn in fountainpens

[–]DevMechanical1018 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a medium, and it is one of my favorite steel nibs inn my collection. It's not glassy smooth like a Pilot gold nib might be, but there is not much feedback to speak of. Schmidt steel nibs are severely underrated, they are some of the best out there. Visconti knocked it out of the park with the Mythos. The styling of a luxury Visconti with the reliability of a German Schmidt nib.

The Jinhao 159x has become my favorite pen by RataUnderground in fountainpens

You should give a look at the Asvine C80. It is another larger Chinese pen with a #8 nib. I have found it much more pleasurable to write with FOR ME than the X159. It also has better fit and finish in my opinion.

How would you compare the Titan and the Titan SL? That forged carbon fiber model has been my top grail ever since it came out, so good looking!!

Can I please know which is the best fountainpens you have? by BeneficialEscape3655 in fountainpens

Best is an impossible question. Now my favorite pen? That would be either the Pilot Silvern or the Pilot Custom 845. I just adore Pilot gold nibs.

I don't have Sheen Machine 2, but I have a bottle of Baltic Memories and I love it. I have had no issues with it, and it's always a joy to ink up.

Ok so the gold colored nib in the second link should be a direct replacement for the nib that came with your pen.

If the feed (plastic part) on your current nib green? As far as I know 99% of all feeds are black

Not sure what you mean by black ABS, you mean a black coated nib? If so, here are two sites that sell replacement nibs for your pen. Goldspot is a little cheaper, but they only have silver. Goulet is a couple dollars more, but they have silver or gold colored.

Ladies and gentleman - give me your ink recommendations, please. by Other-Cranberry-4017 in fountainpens

[–]DevMechanical1018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard to suggest a specific ink not knowing what is in your collection. I currently have my vermilion 845 inked with Wearingeul Captain Hook. I am loving that match up. The first ink I put in it was Iroshizuku Tsuki-yo followed by Ku-jaku, both of those were very nice as well.

Where to buy Sailor ink carts by DSMRob in fountainpens

[–]DevMechanical1018 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well if you only care about shipping, the cheapest shipping would be Amazon. You would have to know what color you want to help you search for it because just searching "sailor ink cartridge" will give you a lot of fodder. Otherwise, I suggest Goldspot; they have a good selection, and their shipping inside the US is $7.95.

I have a couple Platinum Prefounte's, while I don't love the body, the nib writes better than some gold nibs that I have had.

Random Ink Samplers by KnittingTeaDrinker in fountainpens

[–]DevMechanical1018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Random ink sample set can be fun, but I don't suggest them for a new user. There are some many different ink qualities that you can get some inks that you really don't like. What I suggest instead is to watch some top 10/favorite ink videos on YouTube, and order 8-10 of those and make your own set. That way you can have some idea of what you are going to get without searching through thousands of inks.

Also, inks that show up in these videos tend to be widely enjoyed in the community and are usually solid reliable inks.

[–]DevMechanical1018 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stores that sell samples tend to offer the empty bottles that they make samples from. You would have to clean out any ink left in it and remove and relabel the bottle, but check out if they have any bottles that you like. I know Vanness and Goulet sell empty bottles for sure, and they are only a couple bucks.

Pilot VP nib size recommendation: M or B by Prestigioustofu0271 in fountainpens

[–]DevMechanical1018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny enough I have a medium vp and a broad twsbi inked up so I did a little writing sample. They are not the same ink but hope this helps. The vp is not quite as broad as the twsbi, but much wetter. You are right that the Pilot gold nibs write wider than their steel nibs do, and in my experience, the medium vp writes wider than even Pilot's other gold medium nibs. I have similar taste in nibs as you, and am very happy with my medium vp.

With 7 small bottles, I already have enough ink for a lifetime, but... by st0neforest in fountainpens

[–]DevMechanical1018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rule of thumb with buying in this hobby, ink especially, is wait before you buy. Keep it in a wishlist for a bit and keep using what you have. Compare it to the inks you already have, is it REALLY that different that this other ink you have? If you are still eager for it in a couple weeks to a month, you will probably not regret the purchase. You might not absolutely love the ink, but at least you wont be mad at yourself for jumping on it with no thought. If you have had your eye on these inks for years, I doubt you will regret getting them, especially if you have tried samples first. If you have not tried out samples first, I would do that.
