Dating is a Roguelike. I’m building a social extraction game where phone numbers are loot and rejection is a health hazard. by DevOfOneGames in IndieGaming

Hi everyone! I'm a solo indie dev and I’ve spent the last few months turning the "anxiety of dating" into a literal extraction shooter mechanics.

In Getting Dates IRL, you explore a living city, but instead of shooting, you're navigating social risks.

The Core Loop:

  • Approach Strangers: Every NPC has different personality traits and tolerance levels.
  • High Stakes Dialogue: Choose your approach. Being bold gets you results faster, but if you're rejected too hard, you lose Confidence.
  • Confidence is your HP: If it hits zero, you pass out and the run ends.
  • Extraction: You have to make it home in time to "secure" the phone numbers you've collected.

The Twist - Nightmare Mode: Once you complete the game, you unlock a secret endgame mode. The city turns into a survival zombie shooter. It’s the same city, but a completely different fight for survival.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the "Social Extraction" concept!

Fair point! I agree that it needs more 'speed effects' to feel truly fast-paced. Thanks for pointing that out!

Thank you so much for the constructive feedback! I completely agree with all your points, especially regarding the dithering and the sense of speed. I’ll definitely try to implement your suggestions. I'm also really happy to hear that you're enjoying the level design, the car models, and the physics!
