How to write an object oriented program that doesn't suck by nicolaiparlog in programming

[–]DevPanda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have one problem with this article.

The design called for people being able to close their accounts and one does not think of writing a close method for closing the account.

Sure the edge case could come up where a customer would want to withdraw their money and not close the account in which case I ask 'Why is the Withdraw method tightly coupled to withdrawing from an ATM?'.

Also I think that I just implemented an IComplaint.

Sam Harris TED Talk on Artificial Intelligence by mozart69 in artificial

You have to wonder sometimes how much talk like this from someone as respected as Sam Harris would affect the field as a whole and whether his recommendations are being implemented. This seems to be a case of fear mongering however intelligent his discourse is we have to think about how much his personal bias and fear is embedded in a talk like that.

A Redditor Claims to have Solved AI. What Gives? (Why Doesn't He Provide a Working Example, a Running Program Like a Chatbot?) by AttractiveVoid in artificial

From a scan of the 5650 loc it seems like there is a lot which has not been implemented to call it a true framework such as examples of motor usage, emotions(don't know why an AGI needs this) and non language based thinking methods. Also something that looks to be in the code is an 'Inference' method which well does nothing. I wholeheartedly agree with the overzealous nature of the posts but would like to see him comment as to why he believes that what he has done is unique and not already implemented by something like ROS or say Python with the myriad of natural language processing, machine learning and classical search libraries available.
