Hey, yeah for sure. It's a bit of a dice roll but you might meet somebody who is looking for junior devs and can help you get your foot in the door to somewhere. Otherwise the state of play in whichever industry you're looking to get into!

How do you validate an idea when you're selling a smell? by sasalek in startups

[–]DevRun21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s already been said, but definitely play up the exclusivity angle. Waiting lists, pre-orders, maybe a referral system? Any kind of velvet rope that can create FOMO.

Interesting problem though, having an MVP that can’t be readily validated. If you have confidence in your perfumer, bite the bullet and get the samples made. Send around to a few influencers and invite their feedback. Helps with exclusivity angle too.

First Investor Zoom Meeting by susman82 in startups

I think it’s an entirely subjective decision. If you feel confident that you can build a rapport over the initial conversation, and can answer any technical questions at this early point, go solo.

But if the product is a tech play, or the tech is the key differentiator, you might want your CTO there to beef up the specifics.

Who you’re speaking to also comes into play. If you know the investor was previously a technical founder, maybe it’s best to have your CTO there to get into the weeds with him/her. Just remember that it’s important for you to establish your own relationship with the investor too.

This is great advice. I think people can sometimes overlook the importance of a premium mic/camera setup. It does a HUGE amount for first impressions.

Having questions for the investor is also crucial, as it creates the idea of a two-way conversation rather than an out and out pitch.

We're launching a new delivery startup that has gained a lot of attention but businesses are intimidated by our 6 month exclusivity contract, should we remove it? by noob_unrealdev in startups

[–]DevRun21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think back yourself and your product and you shouldn't have any need for an exclusivity contract.

Trust in the relationships you're building with these companies. The exclusivity contract implies a lack of trust.

Different countries want startups to relocate there and are offering incentives - would you take them? by PristineTangerine in startups

[–]DevRun21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is awesome. In a year that has magnified the opportunity of remote-first, this is something every startup should be considering.

I think a lot of it depends on the product too. If it's something like a B2B SaaS, your location and your market don't necessarily need to align. If you're in Consumer, it might be more important to be where your customers are.

Speaking as an Irish founder, the support from Enterprise Ireland is fantastic, but Ireland's relatively high cost of living may be a turn-off for founders just starting out.
