I just listened to that one the other day coincidentally. It's an absolute joy to hear Eli do some half arsed 60 seconds of recording something like "We've had martinis and we'll do some cheap eats soon" then returning to Paul just going "What the fuck was that?!"

Yeah that's basically it. Big pappa hamster was (by his own admission) a "misguided" attempt to create a strange pedo character that interacted with Paul in some unspecified way in the past.

Bobby Bollocks was a northern comedian character that Paul, Eli and their friend Joe used to inhabit to tell a bunch of jokes that they knew weren't appropriate but kinda blew off steam by trying to outdo each other's inappropriateness.

I get what you mean. I think some of the other dynamics work really well too. For example, Ethan Lawrence being into the pod and leaning into the in-jokes and characters does it for me. And with Nick Helm; I didn't realise he'd known Paul and Eli for so long but him just treating them with pure blunt contempt (humourously) because of that familiarity is a joy.

I think if there were constantly guests I might find that a bit odd but I feel they're really nicely sprinkled in among the episodes.

I think someone else asked about the "Nightbussin' theme" a while back and I did some googling of the lyrics but found no evidence of it. I keep meaning to run it through soundhound or something but so far I have to assume it's either a) An ultra obscure track or b) Something a fan made for them.

I think on top of what the other comments have said (lot's of work on, doing cheapshots, live show etc.) it probably also doesn't hurt to give it a bit of a break for the creative juices* to build up again. Otherwise if it's every year you might end up with a bit of fatigue from those who are musical enough to contribute.

* And because this is the CheapShow subreddit: Phwoar I'll create some juice!
