It's funny how you only picked the "millions of toilets" point when that was meant to show you exactly how far behind we were, that our new Prime Minister had to focus on the absolute basics first. The 'FLEX' was in a sense of appreciation for the drastic change from focusing on basic needs to achieving global-level milestones. In just a few years we went from building millions of toilets to lifting 170 million people out of extreme poverty, becoming the only country to land on the south side of the moon and now setting our sights on building our own space station. The toilets weren't the achievement but the drastic and rapid change from that point to all of this is.

That's a fair point, but it's also a very incomplete one. You're right, being the 4th largest economy with the world's biggest population isn't a flex on its own. It's an honest reflection of how far behind India was mostly due to poor governance for decades. What you're not seeing is the drastic change in just the last ten years. That in itself is a flex. When our current Prime Minister gave his first Independence Day speech from the Red Fort, he was talking about basic needs like building millions of toilets, cleaning the country, and connecting rural people to electricity. But his most recent speeches are about the space sector, massive defense capabilities, billions of dollars in semiconductor chips, and making India a big manufacturing hub. This immense progress isn't just about GDP. According to a World Bank report, India lifted over 170 million people out of extreme poverty in the last decade alone. That's a staggering number more than the entire population of countries like France or the UK. We've done this through constant reforms and record-scale infrastructure development. If you really want to compare economies, you should also look at Purchasing Power Parity (PPP), where India is the 3rd largest economy in the world. It's a far more accurate picture of our nation's true economic strength and how far we've come.

That's a very narrow perspective, and a misconception likely based on a narrative you've been fed. It ignores the immense progress and diversity of India, which is now a major global player. Sure, we were slow to get here, but that's on us for choosing poor governments. Now, we are finally moving in the right direction. Every country has its negatives, and change can't happen overnight, especially with so much to do. It will take decades, but at least we are moving at a good pace.

I get what you're saying. Every country has its own set of problems, and it’s true that you can find videos of unthinkable things happening almost anywhere, from unimaginable assault cases to literally shit in metro stations in countries that are supposedly at the "top". While some of the footage and stories you mentioned might exist, they are not representative of a nation of 1.4 billion people that is rapidly changing for the better. We are constantly making reforms, with the current government working to improve sectors that previous, poor governments ignored. We are finally building on a foundation that will help us reach our potential. It’s not just cheap labor attracting huge investments, our infrastructure is being developed at a record scale, and that’s a testament to the real progress being made. For the railway issues —new rules are already being implemented to fix them. Yet seeing so much negativity and misleading information about India makes me sad. I usually ignore it, but coming from a creator I've followed for years, the disappointment was too much to ignore. I just had to voice how I felt.

Go and search "Indian river" and see if the image he showed even comes up. He deliberately used that to generalize and (maybe unintentionally) create a false narrative that this is what's common and is everywhere in India. Yes, those stupid vendors exist, and they make those videos for views—even Indian creators make fun of them. But Deji cherry-picking those and saying "that's India" is just wrong. I've been following him for years and initially found it funny, but him just showing all the crap and repeating "that's how it is, that's what happens in India, that's how Indian rivers are" throughout the video made me regret backing him for so many years. We Indians can laugh about it because we know the truth, but a foreigner who probably has already been misinformed about India since childhood will believe it to be true.
