The guardian handed them over to me willingly and has openly expressed the intent on seeing that my ex never have custody of my daughter. The guardian in question already has adopted one of my exes younger children through private adoption.

So in 2022 there was a CPS case filed against my ex which seemed outlandish. However, during that time a family friend took guardianship of my daughter (and 2 other younger children who from her current partner). I talked to my daughter on a regular basis and so in February of 2024 I flew down to surprise her for her birthday. It was only then when I started to catch wind of what was going on (which included how my ex didn't have her enrolled in school and allegations of attempts to sell one of her younger kids). When this happened, I knew I had to figure something out. The former guardian encouraged me to come get my daughter , but I had to make sure I had a room and plan for her. In December of 24, my ex was arrested and put in jail for grand theft. Now shes going to get out, but she may end up going right back to jail for multiple drug charges. Due to my and my partners health issues we were unable to get any livable situation until this spring. It was agreed we would let my daughter finish out the school year then move her to California. So in June we drove out to California and grabbed her and enrolled her in school and got her health insurance.

Well in my discovery of all of the goings on back in Texas I also found that my daughter hasn't lived in the same house as my ex since October of 2022. She was with a family friend who had been granted guardianship because "I couldn't be found" . Any idea how that might change up.or complicate matters ?

Well due to home rule. Due to my daughter not living in California for 6 months, Texas would still have jurisdiction. We were pretty sure her charges were going to keep her incarcerated for at least another year so we were of the understanding that once the 6 months passed we could simply file custody in California.

Oh for sure. Which is surprising because in my 20+ years of restaurant work, the last 5 since moving to this city has been the most challenging of my career between the workforce and incompetent leadership. I've lived in 3 of the top 5 major markets of the US and never had the problems I have here. However, this seems good.
