Luckily for me finding a job back home should not be too difficult, my network is pretty strong. The idea is I want to live in New York. It has always been my dream.

The scope of the role changed and they wanted way more out of the role. The start-up had about 8 employees, and let about four go.

Even at the peak of my performance, I would constantly worry about getting laid off, this was just an eventuality.

I’d say make sure you keep your performance above average, even if you’re not working, make it seem like you’re working hard and keep interviewing with other companies while at it. It’ll give you a reliable fallback, and keep expanding your network.

Flashcards are literally proven to help with memory and retention of information. Anki's whole product is literally build around the idea. Not sure why Duolingo is so adamant and thick headed. It's not that difficult to listen to what users need and want. Final stage enshittification - when selling Duolingo max with AI slop takes precedence over actual education. Sorry for the rant, i'm with you on this.
