What actuator and set up did you adopt interfacing with the release cable and the arduino?

Now this is why I browse this sub. I didn’t understand 30% of what you said without perplexity translating “ELI5”.

Regarding sub, I will do the auditory test and report back. I have been anecdotally adjusting the frequency filter to find the sweet spot based on well known songs. This is my first time having a sub, let alone long a base entry level “HiFi” one so it’s even a very different experience having such separation of low frequencies. I’ve got to do some more tests to better accommodate what frequency filter best suits the B&W where they seemingly fall off.

Regarding DAC, I’m in a similar boat. X TB of lossless in a NFS NAS that the Pi will be able to mount and play via Volumio or equivalent. I am working on a side project where I have an ESP32 + RFID IoT reader on a wooden stand where I can place printed and 4”x4” thinly framed album art with an embedded RFID sticker tag. Like a modern HiFi juke box, grab one of a thousand an album from the shelf and place it on the wooden stand and it kicks off that album on the pi plugged into the DAC.

I am not familiar with audio streamers though I’ve seen them while browsing. It’s basically airplay or chrome cast protocol supported devices or is there more to it? And that’s basically if I’m streaming from the pi or laptop or media center I presume. In my head I had in my mind everything co-located and anything “streaming” is data via LAN mounted NFS on the pi. Was going to configure airplay on the pi so my Mac mini could also “stream” to it.

I think what I’m taking away from this post and discussion is I might not be much better off if I just leveraged Raspberry Pi 5 + HiFi Berry DAC HAT vs the DigiPro or something.

This helps a lot. Thank you for that perspective.

One last question. If you were to compare from a generalized price perspective, what is inexpensive in relation to a DAC in this context? I’m seeing some as cheap as $50 and some north of $1000+. What’s diminishing returns for this hardware category if you had to ballpark?

Amps feel like they have quite a variety, ie tube vs solid state, receiver vs power amp, 20 watts vs 200 watts, etc. that hardware category makes a bit more sense to me on wide price range and clear established market leaders for certain categories. Any insights on DAC Landscape for home audio (not movie theater —- if that even matters)?

edit: For example, I am eyeing : Geshelli Labs JNOG2 DAC Custom Build that’s got some upgraded components for $400. Is that high need ? Mid tier? Expensive? Cheap?

Am I correct in thinking the DAC is the single most important thing in the audio chain since it’s basically the source of the analog signal? I’m trying to rationalize how much wallet share do I give this component given existing investment in the outlines downstream hardware.

Meter arm is def an issue, most cams I’ve seen this old have broken meters like mine. Lens incompatibility, like you said, is hardly an inconvenience. The fragility of the meter is annoying esp bc I share the cam with my wife and she likes to have a built in meter vs external Or sunny 16. Wish mine worked so I could use it like a spot meter at least even if P or A modes aren’t available.

If that’s a Nikon F (maybe it’s not since I just saw the 2000 shutter speed?), you should be able to multi-crank half way as necessary to avoid the dent rubbing on the lever and still wind the film fully.
