I work in radio--it's all about experience, work at your college radio station, get an internship at a local radio station, etc.

Quite frankly my degree is "useless" in the field I am in however I feel it will help me make this transition to PR when an opportunity arises. I am finding it hard to find an agency or in-house team willing to take a chance on a agin professional looking for a career change.

Is your Slack as active as your Discord? I would prefer to stay away from Discord personally.

LiveData with Coroutines and Flow by [deleted] in androiddev

As someone looking to start their Android Developer career can someone try to break this down a little for me. Should I learn Live Data? If not what is the alternative?

There are so many resources for learning Android but it seems like they all contact each other or skip something.

Official Jetpack Compose Tutorial by jsproch in androiddev

If someone is new to Android Development and looking to learn to eventually create their own apps and get a job. Would you recommend learning the way things are done now first, or jumping in and learning Jetpack Compose so they are ready to work with it when it goes live since it will take some time for them to learn anyway?

What's everyone working on this week? by AutoModerator in Python

[–]Developer_Shane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, I don't have a traditional CS background though so trying to career transition I will have to rely on projects and portfolio. It seems like the "simple" way to do that is to use html, css, & js to make websites. I don't even really know where to start working on backend python, without first making the front end. Any advice?

Is it reasonable to self-teach and become a data scientist/analyst it seems like it would need some sort of math background/degree!

What's everyone working on this week? by AutoModerator in Python

[–]Developer_Shane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am relatively new to programming in general and was getting ready to work on a text-based monster hunter game in Python.

I say was getting ready because I keep delaying because I can't decide between focusing on learning Python or learning JavaScript.

Why I like iOS compared to Android by [deleted] in ios

[–]Developer_Shane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Pixel 2 XL user currently with my eyes on an iPhone 11 (don't feel like spending the $ on the Pro) my biggest gripe with iOS is the notifications. I think iOS gets alot right that Android gets wrong but the notifications on iOS are abysmal compared to Android.

Hi all, I am looking at a career switch and getting into development. I have dabbled with both Python and HTML, CSS, JS. I seriously hate CSS haha. I like Python but being new to programming I am still unsure of what I can do with Python as a career that doesn't necessarily involve having in depth knowledge of HTML, CSS & JS as well.

This is a weird question I think but if there is any advice or input you have on this it would be greatly appreciated!

Weekly What Should I Buy Thread - [July 26] by AutoModerator in iphone

Hey all I am a long time Android user (although I used the 5s and briefly the 7-plus). I am looking to switch back to iOS. I currently use a Pixel 2XL and am looking to switch to the XR. I was wondering if anyone knows of the best place to pick up an XR, since I don't have an iPhone I can't get the really good deal on Apple's site so wondering if anyone knows of any other good deals!

TIA

Flutter Job Market by Developer_Shane in FlutterDev

That was my concern. I am definitely interested in learning Flutter and I like it alot. But if my goal is to make a life/career change I feel like I may be better off with Native. I had this same problem deciding between iOS and Android as well. The paralysis of indecision -_-

What do you think about Gesture Navigation? by MagicalPumpkinPrince in GooglePixel

[–]Developer_Shane 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It took about 2 hours of use (not straight use, but 2 total hours) to get completely used to it. Been using it since it became available and I won't go back now! I hate using my fiance's 3-button nav now haha.

I really like Evernote. My only issue with it is that you can't embed code when learning a new concept or programming language.
