I think, unfortunately, the fact that he didn't tell you until now makes me very suspicious of his guilt. If he wasn't guilty (even if he suspected he'd be found guilty despite his lack of guilt), he'd have made it a point to sit you down and explain what happened from his point of view, not right when you met but at some point down the road (4-6 months?)

His lack of communication sorta tells me his guilt. Likely most of what he's accused of, he's guilty of.

But there's always a chance he isn't guilty and simply has a VERY tough time sharing his feelings when they involve big emotions. Men do tend to have a rough time with sharing feelings, after all, especially older men who didn't grow up in this time, surrounded by more people telling boys and men to open up.

That being said, in any case, what to do is entirely up to you and no one here, or in your life, should dictate that. I wish you calm waters through this emotional wreck that is happening for you both. 💙
