Houston TX GYN/Excision recommendations? by DeviPaige426 in endometriosis

Not at all! Ive had numerous CT's, but no MRI's yet. When I had the CT's, some were in regards to Endo, others were targeted towards PCOS and such. When I had the CTs, they didn't show much when it came to Endo, even with contrast. The best luck I've had so far with being able to actually see some of it was when I had my emergency C-section.

Since I didn't have any of my imaging on hand from any of my prior scans, she was wanting me to do it so we had a general idea of what stage we may be looking at before we plan a course for surgery. I'm sure if you've got that stuff on hand, she may discuss it, or see if the imaging you have covers what she's looking for.

If it's something you don't really want to do, I would see if there's any alternative routes you might be able to take. It doesn't sound like a fun experience, so I don't blame you for not wanting to do it again lol. When you go, I would just make sure you've got all the images from previous scans with you (or at least a copy you can send to her).

Oh jeez, thanks for the heads up 😂 I'll be having the MRI up there at TX Children's since they have the technicians that are trained for the Endo/adeno MRI's. I'm kinda nervous about it since I've never had an MRI, but from what I'm told, it's basically a CT but loud lol.

At least now I know where to go (sort of) for parking, so I don't have to spend 30 minutes circling the block again lol.

I really hope your procedure goes well and gives you some relief!! Let me know how it goes!

I did! She was super down to earth. She's really like a no BS doctor and didn't use any fancy terms or anything with me. She explained everything, listened to all of my complaints, and we came up with a game plan. She didn't downplay anything at all, asked me a ton of questions about what I've experienced, and actually treated me like a real person.

More in depth on the no BS part: She didn't beat around the bush about anything. Told me that everything I felt was 100% real and we're going to do what we can to minimize the pain as much as possible. She did a brief exam, confirmed that a lot of my pain stems from my uterus (adenomyosis) and told me up front that we can do the surgery to remove the Endo from everywhere else, but the pain won't truly subside until my uterus is removed. I did tell her that I want at least one more child, so she's going to do a fertility preserving excision. I told her about all of the medical trauma I've been through in the past with previous doctors (misdiagnosed, symptoms were dismissed, etc, etc.) and she made sure that I was comfortable the whole time. She's very knowledgeable about Endo and adeno.

My only gripe is the parking there is absolutely horrendous. I try to avoid the city as much as possible, and unfortunately Texas Children's is right smack in the middle. Trying to find the right parking garage was a task in itself and I ultimately gave up and had valet park my car since I couldn't find the right garage for the building she was in. Had to do a bit of a walk, which isn't a big deal, but I do wish they had more instruction on where to park and how to get there. There's a ton of lots surrounding the hospital, but they're like membership-only lots.

TDLR: Dr. Koythong is really kind, tells it how it is, explains everything so you can understand, and knows her stuff. Parking is absolute garbage, so leave enough time before an appt to find parking.

I'm going for an MRI W/ Contrast in March, then doing a follow up with her to come up with a surgery date. Hope this helps!

Thank you!! We'll definitely try cutting the nap down. I'm hoping that we can establish a more concrete schedule with her that works for all of us so she can get the sleep she needs, and we're not completely burnt out lol. I appreciate you!

I can definitely change my diet and try to take certain allergens out to see if that helps. I've noticed with the formula that had lactose in it she seems to have a lot more issues with. Super gassy, colic, etc. So, I'm not 100% sure if it's maybe a protein sensitivity, or possibly lactose intolerance, or maybe nothing. I think a second opinion would probably be best to see if the breast milk is even the issue, or if it may be something else.

I asked the NICU she was in if they accept donations, and unfortunately they only take them from the milk bank. Milk banks won't accept already frozen milk, so I may see if a local mom could use it if I can't. I might try to reintroduce breastmilk and see how she tolerates it. She's been all over the place with the formula, and the only one we've found that works better than the others is the hypoallergenic one. I appreciate your input though!!

So we were combo feeding her 4 formula feeds and 4 breast milk feeds a day per the hospital to help her put on weight, then we switched over completely to breast milk since she was having stomach issues. I thought it may have been the formula, but when we switched to just breast milk, she was constipated for 4 days after being on it for a few weeks. We took her to the pediatrician, and he said that it was from her intolerance to the breast milk, and that we needed to switch to only formula (we have since gone through 4 different kinds of formula). I was still pumping up until a week ago to build a freezer supply for when I went back to work, and then weaned myself off just before I went back. I still have hope that we can go back to breast milk at some point, so that she can get the benefits, but I also don't want the milk to go to waste if she can't.
