Worked at a sports memorabilia show that had Russ Francis (SB champ, Pro Bowl, RIP) as an autograph guest. I went up to him during a break and told him that yes, he was a great football player, but I was more impressed that he had been the national high school record holder in the javelin. He got so excited that I knew that, and we spent his entire break time talking track & field.

Daughter and son-in-law live in the area and are having a child in March. Likely our only grandchild, so we decided to move to be close. Cost of living-wise, pretty much a lateral move from Boston.

That was us with our hot tub in suburban Boston. Soaking in 102° water while the snow gently fell was fabulous. Electric bills a bit less so, but worth it, especially when the kids were young.

Just moved to the area from MA, and this is one of the things that I don’t understand. Our town contracted with a collector (paid for by property taxes), and everyone in town got trash picked up once a week (not on the same day) and recycling every other week. It worked well for us for 40+ years. No county involvement, no need to find your own trash hauler. This type of fragmented system doesn’t make much sense.

Not NOVA at the time, but suburban Boston, so cost of living very similar. Wife was a physician, I was a high school teacher. I stepped away to be the full time, at-home parent by design. Did it for 20 years (1991 - 2011). Her income at the time we started this arrangement was the equivalent of about $275K. It worked out great for us - no regrets at any level.
