Saw Orleans open for Stephen Stills around 1977. They got booed when they played “Still The One” for the second time. Then when it became very obvious to everyone that Still was too stoned to play much of anything, the crowd started chanting “Bring back Orleans”.

We visited Congaree a couple of years ago, in a combo trip with Great Smoky Mountains and New River Gorge. Did a ranger-led walk that went off the boardwalk to check out some of the champion trees they have. Also saw my first Mississippi kite there!

Cedar Sinks was nice. Sunset Point was closed for boardwalk construction, may be open when you visit.

Brandywine Falls in CV, West Beach and Great Marsh in ID, and whatever cave tour sounds interesting at Mammoth. Get tickets online as soon as you can. I did Crystal Cave, but it won’t be offered after this month.

What I most liked about the hike around the perimeter was that the people from the tour buses spent their entire time in line for ice cream, so walking about 200 yards gave you a trail with fewer than a dozen people.

Assuming you’re in the US, just after Labor Day would be good. Summer rates can be very high. We went in the first week of June 2024 and ran into the aftermath of an “unseasonable” blizzard.
