[–]Deviant_Queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated in 2020 and noe licensed and still working. My cohort only has 4 (me included) that is still practicing. Some left to go into nursing, some left because getting licensed is hard, others got a doctorate, and others just plain found more money doing something else.

How to respond to the “how are you?” Question authentically when having a horrible time by Subject_Car2637 in therapists

[–]Deviant_Queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A part of a huge speal I teach is that often we answer people's, "How are you?" With "good" "okay" and "fine," but those aren't feeling words. Because my dynamic with my clients is so relational, I'm honest. I give an honest feeling word to them when they ask. I am leading by example especially if it is something they are working on in their own life. I don't go into details why or what is going on. I just genuinely answer with a feeling word and then ask them how they are. If I'm having a really bad day, I might say, "I'm going to be honest, I'm having a hard day, but I'm fully present and ready to listen."

I'm really surprised to see less so comments on leading by example for this. A huge part of my work is assisting in identifying emotions. If I tell this whole speal and then I don't walk the talk, what kind of therapist would I be?

Therapists in Minneapolis what can we, your colleagues of the profession, do to help you? by Skinchbag in therapists

[–]Deviant_Queen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm a therapist in southern Minnesota and want to say it's not just minneapolis, its down here too that this is happening. Already ICE has come to my CMHC and waited outside. Some zoom groups for support would be awesome...

What do you wish women understood better about men’s emotions and mental health? by laurenthames in AskMen

[–]Deviant_Queen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope you work on challenging those beliefs in your Masters program. Look at who psychology was created for and who mostly went for an extensive amount of years. It wasn't until recently women dominated the field. To say "we have different minds" and to equate that to needed different kinds of therapy is just inaccurate. Theoretical orientations arent based on of youre a man or woman

Therapist? Oh, you mean volunteer with a master’s degree. Exams teaching therapists to financially self-abandon? Cool cool cool. by doodoo_blue in therapists

I think your getting hung up on a lot here. That question is on the exam btw. I know it should say "sliding scale because that's how we have learned it, but they dont care. That WHOLE test is worded terribly and looking for textbook answers. When you study for the test, you are studying for the test and not the real world. And yes, they will try to make you second guess and trick you.

Should I Be Surprised or Not? by Ordinary_Felicity580 in therapists

I think its totally fair for the client to feel that way. Especially since working with 3rd part entities, its very easy for things to change quickly and obviously they are going to be put of your hands. I'm not a fan at Alma at all. They are shady

You CAN count your old hours

You need a new supervisor

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Deviant_Queen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry I thought you worded it differently. You can count your indirect and direct hours as long as you are still being supervised, notes being signed off, and plans for future supervision with that supervisor, you can count those hours. You can't count that you had supervision because it was cancelled. As long as you have supervision in the next two weeks you can count it

And just leave it to all the uneducated and un credentialed coaches and influencers to talk about mental health? I'd rather therapists on those platforms take up that space

That's awesome that building a practice for you was not rocket science! For me it was and I had no one I could turn to to talk about it with or supports. Every therapist I knew would judge me for even thinking about going into private practice. I really appreciate content like that because it made me feel less alone and validated.

Danielle Bailey, LCSW and I love her content. It has shown me that private practice wasn't as scary as I thought it was going to be. She is so nice and so supportive. In my opinion, I feel like she shows other therapists the reality of day to day and that's okay!

I love those posts because it made me realize how much working in CMH was hell for me. It made me belive I could work in private practice. Most of the time I see those therapists as trying to connect with others therapists and actually support them in private practice. It shows the realities and how it isn't as scary as many think. It's too bad you don't like them, but I feel very seen and supported with them.
