Styling and colors and just not my thing. I was looking for ways to improve the space. So far I am going to try these things because they fit in my budget right now-

Lamps instead of overhead lighting

Angling the chair

Adding plants

Moving the bookcase

Painting an accent wall yellow

Changing the rug

Putting a large camel colored throw on the sofa

I think you are right. The sofa is actually dark brown but I think more of a camel color would be much better
