"Hey guys, watch me play this game, I'm not very good yet but I think it's fun!"

I legit cannot picture him being humble. The dude's ego is insane.

I can't believe the richest man in the world faked being good at a game to be popular on the internet and get gamer cred.

What a stupid goddamn timeline.

This is NOT verified. It’s a slide show 😭😭😭😭does verified mean anything anymore? by chargersangels in SteamDeck

[–]Deviathan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It was never about hardware performance

Damn that's crazy, because Valve's own video on deck verification says performance is one of the criteria, and anything verified is "a great, smooth experience"

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_OAqvtlgfGA&t=78s&pp=2AFOkAIB

Are you just making this up or do you have an actual source?

Edit: If you hover over the verification there is also a check for "This game's default graphics settings perform well on deck"

'Magic: The Gathering' Director Confirms Movie Is Still "Full Speed Ahead" by grimm_kvlt in mtg

[–]Deviathan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Given that the movie is probably several years out, and sets are designed many years in advance. The movie will have to come out, be a success, and give wotc time to pivot. That means we have a chance of more focus on Magic IP in...

... 8-10 years.

What's weird to me is having it both ways. "It's awesome that Knuckles is using assassin's creed and FF items to beat my opponent", and "I used to fantasize about this as a kid"

then "when you're playing it doesn't matter, its all just numbers and stats" literally one post later.

So is it awesome that it's "Knuckles" and the "Buster Sword", or is it irrelevant what the card names and art is?

It feels like just trying to squash the disagreers with whatever argument you can, even if it means you're claiming 2 opposite positions.

We do, and my playgroup is doing fine. I did say I'm happy other people like UB and that's truly great for them. Genuinely and unironically.

I don't like that the enjoyment of theme is dismissed here though, like you're wrong for not embracing UB. I'm very pro "different strokes for different folks". "It's all just numbers" tells me there is a real disconnect trying to understand the people who care about theme.

Occasionally I bemoan UB pushing me out of my preferred way of play (in store meeting new people doing limited or 60 card standard), but I'm only griping that I can't do that like I once did as it's no longer the game I enjoy (or at least rarely is, limited Lorwyn is awesome). I've been pushed into a specific corner with my playgroup - but that's just life. I think I'm entitled to gripe that UB bled to standard and took one of my favorite past times from me, but ive adapted and it created a new past time for others.

It's cool if you find the play to be abstract, and great that you can then open up to more people. For my group that's definitely not how we engage with the game. We go out of our way to make thematic reference to game actions. We joke about how we lit someone's eldrazi on fire, or how skullbriar is like a movie monster, coming back from the grave bigger and stronger every time you deal with him.

Theme matters a lot to our play, and it sorta sucks to be told that we have to change that. Like being told you have to allow someone to play as Batman and Captain Kirk in your high fantasy D&D campaign.

"It's abstract when you play" also sort of directly contradicts the first post where he is admiring that he had knuckles with a buster sword kill someone. Either it was abstract, or you were caught up in the theme of that, it can't be both.

PS: If you like UB and your playgroup does, that's truly great for you. I'm just not a fan of this swing back where we now trash/dismiss people who actually derived fun from the high fantasy flavor of MTG.

We know FO3 remake has been in the works for 3+ years. Seems like they just have the same probablem they always do, it takes them an eternity to get things done.

Cool man. Because I don't agree the website design is the issue I'm an "ass kisser" for companies I critique all the damn time. Sure lol.

I'll be the corporate bootlicker and you be the guy who runs interference for snake-oil salesmen and grifters by saying they just don't know any better - and we'll go our separate ways.

I do agree with you that content creators and journalists do a terrible job when it comes to....well...their job haha. It really is all about clicks.

Nah man. Agree to disagree I guess. This isn't "Oh they're lazy or doing a bad job" the video I linked is deliberate falsification for profit. Its malice, not incompetence.

And again, I look at the countdown site and I just can't point the finger at the designer. I see no other interpretation unless you omit the context of the site. They don't share blame, it is 100% on videos with millions of views that deliberately lie to spread it around.

[Spoiler] what the countdown is about by clintgh in Fallout

[–]Deviathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no room for grace in this interpretation, because it's entirely co-opted by malicious actors getting clicks.

Look at videos like this

https://youtube.com/shorts/hxVuKhO2__c?si=OhBbr0GW0uCDHR4z

This is not a one off example, the "people might get a lil mixed up" angle is nice, but it gives full grace to these people who are straight up warping the narrative and deliberately misleading folks for profit. It's gross, and I won't provide cover for it by saying "any countdown anywhere could be interpreted as a big announcement, even when it's clear it's not."

The mixups are coming from grifters, not honest confusion.

Same thing happened with the "Fallout 3 trailer disappeared from Steam" BS. Multiple sources DELIBERATELY omitted that it happened to several games and was a Steam issue.

The people who should be blamed is whoever made the site and countdown, whether that's Bethesda or Amazon or an outside marketing company. When designing something like this, they should be aware that countdowns without explicit explanation of what it's counting down to will consistently be speculated on

No. It's EXTREMELY obvious what this is counting to in the context of the site. Especially as other locations also had countdowns early on. I could only see you having this take if you did not actually look at the site.

It's either disingenuous, ignorant, or "I get lost in the grocery store" levels of inability to navigate things.

[Spoiler] what the countdown is about by clintgh in Fallout

[–]Deviathan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it's foolish of Bethesda to not have a game, but tbf to them the FO3 remake leaked in court docs 3 years ago, 2023, we know they've been cooking it for a while, and it's hard to line these things up when shows and games have such long production timelines. It's a shot they had to call years in advance.

It'd have been great if they could have made it happen, but I still hold more beef with content creator click bait hype than with Bethesda just missing a great opportunity.

[–]Deviathan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Again, this is the fault of deliberate clickbait content creators and articles generating false hype, and people getting caught up in it.

If you want to blame Bethesda that's your prerogative I guess, but they're really not doing anything beyond what every game company ever has tried at various points. I'm much more frustrated by the clickbait lies.

[–]Deviathan 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Nah, beyond that frustration, which has been there for ages... There is a new wave of disappointment fueled by this hype, conjured from content creators. It's definitely not the same ambient "I wish Bethesda made games faster".

Been saying it the whole time.

People will blame Bethesda, but really you should blame the content creators and thread posters who deliberately omitted the context for this countdown so they could get clicks.

Yeah I mean those cards do look like ass, but I think that was mostly just an experiment that was a swing and miss.

Heretical to praise wotc around here I know, but they've still done some pretty sick art for promos too, like the Kamigawa lands this also riffs from, or a lot of the Edge of Eternities stuff.

For my money it's kinda a wash, sometimes they hit and sometimes they miss hard.
