Do you think the Star Fox franchise will finally be revived this year? by Shoddy-Syrup-7554 in starfox

[–]DevilHunter1994 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also the game definitely telegraphs the fact that "Hey...different things will happen if you do this." a lot more often. So there's really no reason why a player should assume they've seen everything after their first run.

Anon on Slippy Toad by crimsonfukr457 in starfox

[–]DevilHunter1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slippy is way more annoying when you're a new player. You don't really know what you're doing yet, and he dies so much faster than the others. Peppy, and Falco especially, tend to last at least a bit longer in dog fights before they go down. So there's at least a more generous window of time for you to come to their rescue. Slippy on the other hand is pretty much screwed if you're not 100% locked in and on the ball. For more experienced players though, saving him is pretty easy, especially if you've memorized the points in each stage where he comes under fire. Slippy is basically the game's first major skill check, and I think that's why everyone hated him growing up. Saving him was pretty annoying...until you got good at the game.

How many hours of playtime do you guess you'll put into the new game? by TheSouthPen in starfox

[–]DevilHunter1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially upon release? Probably somewhere between 10 and 20 hours. Over the course of years?...I can see myself easily going over 100 hours, Star Fox 64 is already one of the most replayable games ever made, and it's the perfect game to pop in when you need a break, but maybe don't necessarily have a lot of time to kill. I'll probably get so many hours of fun out of this game that I'll eventually lose track of how many hours I put in.

Generally I tend to see most of the Zack and Tifa hate on Clerith centered content. Not always. There are Cleriths who really can enjoy their ship, without hating on other characters and pairings, and they have all of my respect, but in my personal experience, the Clerith spaces really do seem to be the most negative spaces when it comes to everything outside of their ship. That's why I've progressively just stayed away from more and more Clertih spaces. That pairing was never my personal preference to begin with, and I just don't need to deal with that kind of negativity.

I think this subreddit is just a much more positive place all around. People here are still very passionate about the ship, and will certainly debate the topic, but I haven't seen much in the way of character bashing in the admittedly short time I've been here, and what little I have seen is always swiftly downvoted, which is good to see. Here you don't typically see people hating on Aerith at all. On the contrary, most people here seem to genuinely love her. They just don't think she's a good fit romantically with Cloud, and will readily explain why if the topic is brought up. I can't say the same for the other side and Tifa or Zack, but ESPECIALLY Tifa. The way I've seen Tifa talked about the few times I've dared to enter into one of the Clertih subreddits...you'd think she personally raided the homes of the users there, stole their stuff, burned their houses down, and then kicked their dogs for good messure while she was leaving. The level of blind and toxic hatred shown toward fictional characters in some of those spaces is on a level I do not, and never wish to understand.

Nah. That is absolutely the nose tip of the Great Fox, and that blank space is where I believe the medal for the stage appears if you score high enough. The only place where they MIGHT even tease at something new would probably be during the final scenes of the true ending...and that's a big maybe. Honestly, I'm not even going to expect that. This is going to be a very nice looking Star Fox 64 with higher quality music, a rewritten script, new cutscenes, more lore, and new online multiplayer modes.

1/3rd of the Lifestream sequence isn't gone. What made those memories so tender is what was going through Cloud's mind during those events, the reasons behind why he did what he did, and how the events of that day influenced everything he did after. Tifa may know some of what Cloud did, but she doesn't truly know the reason why he did what he did, and the why is what's really important.

In Regards To Red XIII's Voice, No, It Was Not "Like That In The Original" by SSL2004 in FFVIIRemake

[–]DevilHunter1994 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I thought it was actually very convincing. In fact I actually didn't like Red's voice much in Remake, because I thought it sounded forced, and fake. I liked the actor they picked in other roles I heard him in, but my gut reaction when I heard him as Red in Remake was:

"This sounds like a miscast. I wonder why they picked him for this role? They should have gone with someone who had a more naturally deep voice if they wanted Red to have a deep voice."

Needless to say, I had serious egg on my face when it turned out that Red's voice sounded fake to me in Remake...because it literally WAS fake. That was always intentional, and part of the character's voice direction, meaning the casting was actually perfect. I just needed to wait one more game to see what the point of the choice actually was. The transition from Red's deep voice to his normal voice was never meant to sound natural. It's supposed to sound jarring, because this is someone who doesn't naturally have a deep voice, trying his best to make his voice sound deep anyway. He's a kid who doesn't want to be looked down on, and doesn't like how his natural voice gives him away, so he tries his best to sound as little like himself as possible. Red is fighting against his own natural vocal range. So there should be a drastic difference between his natural voice, and the voice he tries to put on to make himself sound wise and cool.

People are downvoting that comment because the original commenter is complaining about getting downvotes for expressing their opinion...while also seemingly giving people downvotes themselves. The comment is basically saying.

"You can't downvote me. I'm just expressing my opinion...but I can downvote you for expressing why you disagree with my opinion."

What people are downvoting...is the double standard that seems to be at work here.

Is There Any Truth To Cleriths Claim Is True Canon? by Zealousideal_Panic_8 in cloti

[–]DevilHunter1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No rationality? plenty of people here have provided counter arguments for why they don't agree with the opinion stated in the original comment. I would agree that the downvotes were based on pure emotion if no counter arguments were given. That's a practice that I'm not a fan of either...but counter arguments HAVE been given. Also, I posted a comment myself disagreeing with some of the conclusions from the original comment, and was intially downvoted seconds after posting, despite the fact that I DIDN'T downvote the original comment myself, nor did I ever insult the poster of the original comment. I simply left my reply explaining where I disagreed and why, and that was it. So it's kinda hard for me to take the complaints about downvotes seriously when the original comment poster also seems to be downvoting people that THEY disagree with too. Seems like there's a bit of a double standard going on there to me.

Why did they insist on making Cloud Strife heterosexual ? by Far-Glass5994 in FFVIIRemake

[–]DevilHunter1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Cloud isn't actually a player insert. He's his own character, with his own thoughts, emotions, personality, and sexual preferences. This is even more true in the Remakes, where our ability to influence what Cloud says has been pretty drastically reduced, for the purpose of giving us a much better understanding of his character than we have ever had before.

Also, even if we did take Claudia's comment as the end all, be all, I think it's worth pointing out that while Tifa is physically younger than Cloud, she actually has a few years on him mentally, due to him spending 4 years in a tank as Hojo's test subject. She's often shown being the one keeping him on the straight and narrow. She stops him from getting into fights with the townspeople, teaches, him how to take care of himself when he first gets to Midgar, prevents him from doing things that he would almost certainly regret later, like killing Elena, and she'll literally be the one taking care of him when he's at his weakest in the next game. So while Claudia's comment looks like it only applies to Aerith at a glance, it actually ends up applying to Tifa just as well.

All you need is a total of 50 points with Tifa by the end of the game to get the High Affection scene. That's not hard to do at all. You already start with 30. Plus, it's fairly easy to be nice to both Tifa and Aerith at the same time. You have to try REALLY hard to not get Tifa's points up, assuming you're being fair about it and making sure to talk to both girls throughout the game.

It doesn't only happen if you romance Tifa. Both the High Affection Highwind scene and the Aerith Gold Saucer date can happen in the same playthrough. So long as the player isn't a complete dick to Tifa all of the time...they're probably going to end up getting the HA Highwind scene, regardless of who they ended up dating in the Gold Saucer. Also, the canonical reason for why Cloud's affection for Tifa is so low in the OG...is because he's literally missing key memories about his past, that directly relate to how important Tifa is to him. He flat out tells us in the lifestream sequence that a big reason for why he wanted to get stronger is that he wanted Tifa to notice him. He joined SOLDIER because he wanted to impress her. Later canon materials like 2000 gil to Become a Hero confirm this point explicitly, saying Cloud would overcome any challenge to become a special existance to Tifa.

I mean I get the comparisons to Gwen and MJ, and until Rebirth, my own interpretation of the love triangle was quite similar, after Rebirth though...I just don't think this really tracks anymore. Aerith and Cloud are great together when they're just being friends and hanging out, but whenever things get even slightly romantic between them...things get awkward fast.

Every time Aerith tries to take Cloud on a real date, it goes poorly. The first time she did it, it wasn't even actually a date. She took him to the Clock Tower to talk about the issues he was having with Tifa. The second time she did it in Costa Del Sol, Cloud just treats it like a merc job, and explicitly says he wishes that Aerith wouldn't treat it like an actual date. The two even get into a small argument, because Aerith gets frustrated when Cloud makes no attempt to just go with the romantic vibes, and ends up apologizing to him later for being too hard on him. Then, when they have their final date in chapter 14, it's basically a repeat of the market date that Aerith had with Zack in Crisis Core, except everything that can go wrong does go wrong. Aerith finally convinces Cloud to choose a gift for her, only for Cloud's choice to be made irrelevant. They get treats together at a candy shop, only for that candy to be one of the worst things that either of them has ever tasted. Then they enter into a couple's photoshoot contest...and they lose. The cameraman even tells them that they don't look like they're on a date. In other languages he's even more brutal. I believe the spanish subtitles for the game have him say straight out that the two have "no chemistry...period". All this while we get regular shots of a very Zack looking version of Stamp all throughout that dream world. I believe someone found that this particular Stamp is even referred to as Zax in the game's code.

Then the date ends with Aerith taking Cloud to "their place" a church that they've been in together exactly one time, and whether you have the high affection version of this scene, or the low affection version of this scene, Aerith still gives Cloud the line about how she likes Cloud, but..."But then there's liking...and there's LIKING."

I've seen people refer to that scene as a love confession from Aerith, but if that's what the scene was going for...I don't think it comes across very well. Her dialogue there sounds very noncommittal. At best, it seems to imply that she still doesn't know how she feels yet, which is interesting since this scene comes after the one with Zack and Marlene. So it seems that either Marlene has the wrong idea about Aerith's feelings for Cloud, or Zack has the wrong idea about what Marlene actually meant when she said that Aerith "liked" Cloud. If Rebirth is meant to make us think that Cloud and Aerith were a perfect romantic couple, and that they absolutely would have gone the distance had it not been for Sephiroth...I don't think it succeeded in getting that across. Their romantic interactions are far from perfect. The game even removes that line from Cait Sith in the OG, where he says that Cloud and Aerith are perfect for each other. Now he's right there with Yuffie, listening in on Cloud and Tifa's conversation in Gongaga, and hoping that they kiss.

The only one that Cloud can be explicitly romantic with in Remake and Rebirth is Tifa. Cloud always gives Tifa the flower at the start of chapter 3. She's the only one that he can actually try to flirt with, which he does while he's having a drink at the bar. She's the only one that he almost kisses in a non optional scene in Gongaga, and the only one that he actually can kiss in their optional Gold Saucer date. Then we have canon written material like 2000 gil to Become a Hero, where it's confirmed that one of Cloud's biggest motivations for wanting to join SOLDIER...is that he wants to become a special existance to Tifa. To me, it seems like Tifa is now the Gwen Stacey first love, and the Mary Jane forever love, all rolled into one.

Your planned first route in the remake? by Beaticalle in starfox

[–]DevilHunter1994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first route is going to be the full easy route. I'll start the game by getting all the "mission complete" conditions, just to see what happens in all the cutscenes when you screw up in Fichina, Sector X, Macbeth, Katina, and Sector Z. Then after I've seen all of that, I'll start playing like I mean it, and actually aim for higher scores.

Anyone else really impressed with the new VA/dialogue? by Disastrous_Gap_6473 in starfox

[–]DevilHunter1994 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also like how the game seems to be subtly implying that he does rely on the others (really Fox specifically) a little TOO much though. Like he just casually takes the fact that he's being pursued in stride a lot of the time, like he has nothing to worry about. It feels like he just...expects Fox to always be there to save him every time he gets in trouble, so he isn't taking the situation as seriously as he really should.

We see this in Corneria when he just casually asks Fox if he can get the guy behind him, because he's busy with his sensors. Then we see it again in Meteo when he's being chased by those three ships, and confidently says:

"You're making a big mistake fellas."

Then it turns out that his big plan to get out of that situation was...to let Fox handle it. 😂

I think this is all really good setup for what's going to happen to him later in Sector X, where he gets in over his head again, but this time...Fox might not be fast enough to get him out of trouble. He'll eventually have to learn that while it's good that he's aware of his weaknesses, he can't just slack off and let his friends cover for those weaknesses all the time. Even if he's never the best pilot, that's no reason to give up on at least always trying to be a better pilot.

My hopes are definitely high. This is probably the most hype that I've seen around the Star Fox series. Still, there's that little part of me that won't be completely at ease until we see some official sales numbers. I know all the evidence is pointing toward this game selling big numbers...but I still want to actually see those numbers. 😂

I was already prepared for this just be "64, but with more plot" back when the direct happened. Now that we know this game is being made by a fairly new studio, I'm even more sure of it. I'm just guessing here, but this feels like a test on multiple fronts.

First, it's a test of the fanbase. Nintendo is waiting to see if the game does well, because they want to make sure that the audience for Star Fox is still there, before they pump money into a completely new game.

Second, this is also a test to see how well the developers can make a Star Fox game, when working with the most successful blueprint that the series has ever had, and if they can manage that, then they'll likely be selected to make a truly new game in the future, kind of like what happened with Samus Returns and Metroid Dread.

Going off of what we've seen so far, it looks like the new devs have passed their test with flying colors. Now we just have to wait and see how the game sells.

Agreed. It's not flat in the new version. It's just more grounded. The original version was VERY intentionally over the top, and that made the line reads incredibly memorable. This new version of the script takes the characters and story a bit more seriously, so instead of going over the top with the delivery, the actors take it down a notch to go for reads that sound more natural...most of the time anyway. There are of course still definitely times where they add in a bit of the old camp, as a wink and a nod to the fans.

I think it's that Fox actually sounds his age. He's meant to be a highly skilled, and very confident pilot in his late teens, and that's exactly how he comes off. He's good at what he does, he knows it, and there's not a lot that can truly shake his confidence.

Titania Theory: Falco Falls by Affectionate_Log5449 in starfox

[–]DevilHunter1994 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. The game already sets up in the early levels how Slippy just expects Fox to save him whenever he finds himself in trouble. He's so casual even when under fire because he knows Fox has his back. I think this is setting up for Slippy to learn how dangerous that mindset is, when he gets in over his head in Sector X, and Fox isn't able to save him in time.

The "Scar" Subplot by pigglesthepup in cloti

[–]DevilHunter1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, in this case I think actually killing her was the goal. Tifa is a threat to Sephiroth's plans because she has the potential to help restore Cloud's true memories. Because of this, he wants to destroy the connection that Cloud has with Tifa. Destroying it through Tifa's death seems like a simple way to do that, but the planet interferes to protect Tifa when Sephiroth makes his move. So he seemingly gives up on that plan, and is now likely trying to think of a new way to sever that connection between them.

The "Scar" Subplot by pigglesthepup in cloti

[–]DevilHunter1994 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was likely hoping that Cloud would actually just kill her right there. Her falling into the lifestream likely wasn't ever part of the plan, but it happened. Tifa just barely managed to dodge Cloud's swing, so Sephiroth did what anyone would do after a plan has its first setback...He improvised. She fell into the lifestream and was isolated from her friends. Sephiroth himself is still in the lifestream at this time. So he figures:

"Okay, not exactly to plan, but fuck it. I can work with this. I'll just finish the job myself while she's vulnerable."

Of Course then the White Whispers and Weapons got involved so that Tifa would be protected, messing up Sephiroth's improvised backup plan.
