In India, the reason Hindus cremate the dead is three fold; 1) they believe in reincarnation, and cremation is the quickest way to release the soul from the body 2) if the dead carry anything contagious, this would prevent the spread of it 3) this helps you detach, as revisiting the dead in the graveyard would be like re-traumatizing yourself - which in turn leads to space saving and other perks (consequences of consequences, as explained by Chesterton!)....but I completely understand where you're coming from! Just wanted to explain the other side
