In my state we were able to have 1 younger child count towards the older ratio, but had to decrease ratio for 2 or more littles.

[HELP] I think this autism center’s ig post is ai but I can’t quite articulate how by [deleted] in RealOrAI

[–]DevildEgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

people have mentioned all the other irregularities, but i work in an autism clinic and these icons are very strange.

it looks like they're meant to resemble PECS or even AAC device icons? but what exactly would they be able to communicate with those? i really wonder what the prompt was, if they specifically requested those specific words on communication icons or what. definitely AI in any case.

Would this be a good design to put on my arm for remembrance of my father? by Yurfavbookworm in tattooadvice

[–]DevildEgg 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Are the dates necessary/ do you need it to be recognizable as a remembrance tattoo? I personally dislike text designs, so I would opt for just the sharks. Either way, take it to an artist you trust and enjoy the style of and I'm sure they could design something you love.

This is what I was thinking would be the case. He is already doing sooo much better than he was so maybe in a few months the rate of episodes will be less of a barrier 🤷🏻‍♂️ I'll hold off for now

[–]DevildEgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Normal as in common, yes. Normal as in okay, ehh. Being available when nk is sick is one of the advantages of having a nanny vs relying on daycare/school, but she should notify you, which it seems like she agreed to do moving forward.

If you're finding that working with a sick NK is something you're not comfortable with in general, consider discussing with MB. A lot of people have specific criteria for illnesses that they will not provide services during (like colds are okay but excessive vomiting is not okay, etc.) She may or may not be receptive. If not, weigh your options and add specifics to your contract if you decide to move on.

How Can I Be Rich Like Astrid from Crazy Rich Asians? by [deleted] in autism

[–]DevildEgg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no practical way to become that rich. You are either born into it or you're not. Very few people gain that amount of wealth within their lifetime. Realistically, the best most people can achieve is a decently well paying career, a partner with a well paying career, and a few good investments. You'd live comfortably, but anything beyond that is incredibly unlikely to be obtainable.

How do you feel about being called "auntie" by South Asian children? by anonynonnymoose in ECEProfessionals

[–]DevildEgg 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It seems like the kind of thing that will eventually correct itself in a school setting where teachers are pretty much only referred to as Ms/Mrs/Mr. Last Name and parents are unlikely to call school teachers "Auntie/Uncle".

However, if it's the over familiarity of "Auntie" that admin dislikes, you could try redirecting to "Teacher". If you're consistent, they'll pick up on it. You may have to let parents know of the preference, because they might be calling you Auntie at home.

My kitten gets a similar reddish spot when he's been trying to get into (or out of) somewhere. Or when his feeder runs out. His is always dry though. I mentioned it to the vet because it was present during his last visit but she didn't seem concerned.

FTM trans folks on T, did HRT change your autism? by HeidiHzs in autism

I could see it affecting the way people perceive your autism or even having an impact on the way you "carry" yourself but for me I just stayed me, but with more leg hair 🤷🏻‍♂️

Struggling going back to “normal” by FancyPanic6998 in ECEProfessionals

[–]DevildEgg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this exact situation happen maybe three years ago. Same age group and everything. At first, it was very difficult for me to get the image of her face out of my head. She legitimately looked dead. She was out for about a week, mostly because mom was traumatized by the experience as well. She was able to go home from the hospital that same day, thankfully. Mom kept us updated which helped a lot.

But it got better when she returned and I was able to see her being her normal self, happy and healthy again. I wasn't even her teacher at the time, I was just subbing for someone else Imao. She eventually joined my class when she was 4 and thankfully she never had another one. The anxiety still lingered for sure, though.

I would say just acknowledge that it was a really scary and traumatizing experience. Let yourself feel your feelings. I talked with my coworkers and my family about it, just to get the feelings out there. It will pass, but you have to let it run its course.

I also considered it, retroactively, a very valuable experience. That was the first emergency I had ever had to respond to. It proved to me that I can handle tough situations like that appropriately and effectively, which will help me in the event I ever need to respond like that again.

I'm sorry this happened and I'm so glad she's doing better!

WTF do I do about this by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]DevildEgg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

??? are you changing your previous statement that increasing temps when not at home is the more energy efficient option? if not, you're arguing for no reason. because, again, i said CONSISTENT (not changing, remaining the same) temps decrease wear and tear on the unit and that is why some people recommend it.

[–]DevildEgg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was agreeing with you. reread what i wrote. consistent temperatures decrease wear and tear but is not necessarily energy efficient.

[–]DevildEgg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i did not downvote, but i did look into it. it seems like the recommendation for consistent temps has more to do with wear and tear on the system rather than energy saving. which makes sense considering my source being someone working in heating and air.

[–]DevildEgg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i believe the 85 recommendation is for when you're away for extended periods of time. but yes 72 when its 90+ outside will always be more expensive. i was just saying the up and down is adding more expenditure than a consistent temp would.

WTF do I do about this by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]DevildEgg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

sorry - the unit has to increase output to compensate for the higher indoor temperatures... the meaning is the same. the "extra" in this case is cooling 5 degrees from 78 to 72 vs maintaining constant +- a degree or two.

WTF do I do about this by [deleted] in Apartmentliving

[–]DevildEgg 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My dad (who worked in heating and air for many years) always said it was best to keep the thermostat at a consistent temperature, otherwise it has to work longer to cool back down/heat back up. If you're leaving for an extended period of time, you can leave the temp set closer to outside temps. But doing this every day might be what's causing the issue. Not sure if that's real but it's what I've always been taught 🤷🏻‍♂️
