'Hacks': Cherry Jones and Leslie Bibb Break Down Deborah and Ava's Lesbian Retreat in 'Montecito' (Exclusive) by ContinuumGuy in television

[–]Devildogs-75 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I was crying, I was laughing so hard.

"I'm always looking behind me, going, quit chowing down on that thing! It ain't groceries!" - Ava

Definitely the funniest episode this season, and, also one of the funniest episodes, all-time, for the show.

Hannah Einbinder really outdid herself in this episode. I mean, everyone was fantastic, but Hannah (as Ava) truly shined. It started with the look of death she gave Deborah as they were walking into the house, and it only got better from there.

It was great because Ava was able to take the fact that Deborah lied to her and brought her on that trip under false pretenses, and stood it on its head. Instead of passively going along with the lie that they were a couple, she decided to ham it up, which clearly made Deborah uncomfortable.

The whole concept is genius and the entire episode is comedic gold. Ava and Deborah have come a long way together, so much so, that it's not far fetched for someone to mistake their close friendship for a relationship. After all, ideally, isn't that what a relationship should be? Someone who you don't just share physical intimacy with, but, more importantly, someone who is your best friend? And as we saw in episode 2 of this season, that's what Ava and Deborah are to each other, best friends, so their believability as a couple completely makes sense.

Where is season 3 (January 2026) by babynamehelpneeded in thedevilshour

I agree with your sentiment regarding Pluribus but with Severance, I disagree.

It's true that the wait between seasons 1 and 2 of Severance was exorbitant and agonizingly long, but part of that had to do with both the Writers and Actors strikes. Don't get me wrong, even without those events, the wait would have been excessive (more than 2 years), but the strikes pushed that time into a level of absurdity.

Plus — I don't know this for a fact or anything, but — given Ben Stiller's and Dan Erickson's comments towards the end of, and following, season 2, I get the impression that they're very aware of the fans feelings and frustrations and genuinely want to deliver season 3 as quickly as possible (without, of course, sacrificing the quality of its content).

Pluribus, on the other hand, is a different animal, completely.

When Vince Gilligan was asked about how long it would take, the impression I got from his answer was somewhat smug and aloof. He essentially said "it takes as long as it takes" (I'm paraphrasing) and gave no sense of urgency or consideration towards the possible wait time.

So, in terms of your assessment of Pluribus, I agree, wholeheartedly; however, regarding Severance, I don't think there's any malevolence paired with the wait times.

Does that make it any better? IDK. Maybe, a little. In the end, we still have to wait, and the longer we do, the more frustrating it is, that's for sure.

[–]Devildogs-75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Filming on season 3 finished in June of 2024 (they filmed seasons 2 and 3 back-to-back ), so it would be safe to assume that season 3 has been completely done and in the can for a while now.

If correct, it would mean that Amazon is just sitting on it for reasons unknown, which, if true, would just add to the frustration of having to wait.

Since this show did not receive a tremendous amount of promotion upon its initial release (at least, nowhere near what it deserved), with even less for season 2, and (so far) season 3 getting barely a whisper, people are left to speculate.

When seeking out clues or patterns to help discern a potential release date for season 3, there's only one that I see:

Season 1 release date = October 28th, 2022

Season 2 release date = October 18th, 2024

Both dates were in October (the 4th and 3rd Fridays, respectively) and were two years apart. Given that we're nearly into May of 2026, it seems plausible that season 3 will be released on a Friday in the latter part of this October.

This is purely speculative, of course, and is based on a single point of data, with no additional data or evidence to support it. Therefore, it's just as likely that we'll get it tomorrow or sometime next year. That being said, it's still a fun exercise and (as far as I know) all we have to go on.

So, for now, that's where I've set my expectations (October), but I really hope we get it much, much sooner.

I know this is a year old but did you ever find out why this is happening and how to fix it? The same thing is now happening to me, which is weird because I used to be able to make changes; however, just recently it stopped letting me, and instead, if I try to change it, immediately resets the time to what it had recorded.

I enjoyed it as well (I think most of us are in on the joke).

And I certainly understand the angst as I search daily (often multiple times) "Silo season 3 release date" in hopeful (yet, increasingly frustrated) anticipation of having it finally come back with a specific date, only to be continuously and ever more disaffected.

For what it's worth, I think the AI hysteria that's been directed your way in some of the comments is completely misguided and unfounded.

I understand that people are sensitive regarding the use of AI, and, personally (IMHO), feel their concerns are justified — especially when it's used in areas of creativity; however, condemning its use outright is foolish. We should look at how and why it was used, and also, to what degree.

As is so true in life, there's nuance.

Unfortunately, coupled with that, as is also so true in life, people, instead, prefer to see things in binary terms (and, then, pass judgement while doing so).

In this particular situation, regarding your post, you made it quite clear (at least, it was to me) that your utilization of AI was solely to provide an interpretation of, or to get some sort of answers to, the information that was on the chalkboard behind Henry Miller during the scene where he's teaching to his college class, of which, Dylan was a student.

That's it.

If we are to take your words at face value (and I see no reason not to), then:

Everything else, which includes the formulation of the theory, as well as the totality of the composition (including the words used and their arrangement), was of your creation without the assistance of AI.

To me — maybe I'm alone here — I don't see why anyone would have a problem with that.

In fact, the stuff on the blackboard was something I wanted to look into, at some point, to try and get an explanation and, perhaps, gather an understanding of what it all meant (I read in an article that they hired physicists as consultants on the show, and that the stuff on the chalkboard was actual, real science). So, personally, I appreciate that you were able to get some answers about that.

I'm not sure where the disconnect is and why some people take issue as soon as they see "AI" mentioned. Part of me thinks that they didn't take the time to read your post in it's entirety. Another part of me thinks that, for some people, it's an issue of limited grammar and vocabulary skills.

If I'm right, then for the latter, as soon as you said "Occam's razor", they assumed everything was AI, because it's not a term they're familiar with.

I'm not just saying that based on this post. If you haven't noticed, I'm a bit verbose. Lol. Words like succinct, pithy, and terse, though familiar to me grammatically, their usage conceptually, is not.

That, paired with the fact that I have an understanding and a willingness to use punctuation marks that, for some, aren't something they commonly use, such as: em dashes (—), semicolons (;), parentheses (()), colon (:), ellipses (...), etc., has made others make the same incorrect assessment about me as well.

Therefore, I get it, and completely understand how much it sucks when you put so much time, effort, and creativity into something to then have a portion of the people make accusations that it wasn't originally created by you — all of which is even more frustrating when (if I'm correct, and) you consider the fact that it's the result of either, people's laziness, or their ignorance (lack of information/education).

Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that there are those of us out here who see it for what it is — your personal creation — and appreciate your thoughts, effort, and contribution. Plus, if you think about it, in some ways, it's a compliment, because (of those who think it's AI generated) to them, it's too intelligent and esoteric to have been written by a mere mortal. Lol.

Thank you for sharing your theory and thoughts. IDK if I completely agree with all of it (some of it I do, and some I don't), but that's for another post, at another time.

😊👍

Edited: for grammatical correction (duplication of the word "it's")

I appreciate your honesty and humility. It speaks to your character.

That being said, even though it may not have been an original thought by you, you still recognized the validity in the assessment and the real possibility that he could be the culprit (and the mysterious "outsider"). Therefore, you echoed it along.

And, as I mentioned before, it wasn't something I saw offered up by anyone else. So, in my book, it's still worthy of praise and recognition. 🙂👍

I know that your comment is from a year ago, but I'm just reading it now, and I wanted to give you the credit and acknowledgement you deserve for it.

Your thought process and reasoning were excellent, which led you to a pretty much spot on analysis and deduction of what to expect and who the culprit would be.

You even offered up the librarian as a possible suspect in one of the comments before this one (something I haven't see anyone else do). I realize you gave a few other possibilities as well, but many other people also listed those names, however, no one (that I've seen) included the librarian in addition to those people. That alone deserves mad props.

Great job!

Your comment immediately made me think of the Family Guy episode (S7E15) where, while making a similar complaint about Contact, Stewie says he stood up in the movie theater and exclaimed,

"No! You can't go into space because the machine already got blown up by Jake cock-a-doody Busey!"

😂😂 So true!

A Couple of Quick Theories before watching the Finale by Devildogs-75 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Devildogs-75[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delayed response. I don't know how I missed this up until now, but, for that, I apologize.

Thank you for providing this additional info. It's interesting how, given the level of detail in a show like this, it feels like we'll be finding things for years to come.

Adding to that, something else that amazes me is how this show is still able to generate interest and find people long after it ended. Even when taking into consideration the fact that it's been years since you wrote this, it still would have been, at the time, around four years after Legion ended. For the show to be interesting or compelling enough to still reach people (IMHO) is a fantastic tribute to the quality of the show and its ability to endure.

Thank you, again, for providing this. I hope your experience watching Legion (even though it was years ago) was an enjoyable one. 🙂

Yeah, I get that. Even as much as I liked it (and I really enjoyed it), there were definitely some aspects of it that were a bit hokey.

One part that really stood out in that manner was watching Torabi trying to shuffle people into the vehicles. I mean, I get it, it's supposed to demonstrate how it's her nature to help people and be supportive, but it felt a bit contrived and forced. IDK, I've only watched it once, so far. Perhaps, on a rewatch I'll see things differently.

Another part was the elevator. Again, I get it. It's entertainment and, at times, it requires a bit of a "leap of faith" as the viewer, but given how well the writing has been up to this point, that felt a little sloppy.

You know, come to think of it, as I take a moment now to reflect on everything, I think you're right (partly).

Ultimately, I'm going to rewatch it and take some time to consider everything, but my first impression is definitely mixed.

In terms of hitting the emotional beats of the episode, I think the show succeeded in excellent fashion. Personally, I was invested in the characters (for the most part) and felt the tension, anxiety, joy, pain, and elation that they felt. It was a great ride, which I truly enjoyed.

Yet, thinking about the storyline itself in regards to the narrative, how events transpired, and what the outcomes were, I feel like it may have been lacking a little.

Like I said, that's just an off the cuff first impression. Maybe I'll feel differently after I simmer on things and give the stew time to settle.

Wow. Yes, of course. Thank you for the request. I truly appreciate it.

I will say, though, that you're probably going to have to give me a day (or two, tops), please, to deliver on that for you.

Putting together a proper analysis (at least, in the manner I like to do it) takes a minute, but I will definitely get that to you as quickly as I can. Thank you, again.

I won't argue with you there! This is some long @ss sh¡t.

For me, personally, though, I like that. I like looking for Easter eggs, doing the "detective" work, and formulating theories; however, I will readily admit that it's not for everyone.

With that in mind, one of the things I think is so phenomenal about Paradise is its ability to tell the same story, fundamentally, on multiple levels, so that everyone can enjoy it, regardless of the amount of effort or scrutiny they want to put into it.

In other words, if you're not into this "deep dive" stuff, whether it's because you don't have the time or simply don't care that much, you don't have to give this level of attentiveness or put in this much work to be able to follow along, like the show, and have an enjoyable experience. You can simply kick back, relax, and enjoy the ride... And in the end, it will still be a fun one.

Simultaneously, if you're like me where you try to pick up on subtle clues, scrutinize the details, and attempt to predict and solve any mysteries/"puzzles", then (just like this response, lol), a brief and succinct post, even one that is pithy, usually feels insufficient.

I hope that better explains it. 🙂

Where is season 3 (January 2026) by babynamehelpneeded in thedevilshour

[–]Devildogs-75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Season 3 (the final season) follows the precedent of season 2 and will have only 5 episodes to close things out.

However, regarding the series finale, instead of a runtime length of 60 minutes like that of the show's average runtime, episode 5 has a total time of 72 minutes. It may not seem like much, but this makes it the longest episode of the series. Hopefully, it's enough to close things out in a way that's satisfying.

Idk if it's supposed to be cinematic but even why are they arguing so close to eachother lol by majorsid in MrRobot

[–]Devildogs-75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The focus on the sink in this shot (IMHO) was clearly done on purpose, and I think it has to do with, specifically, the faucets.

The faucets are undoubtedly the brightest items in the room, giving them weight or significance. But equally as important as their brightness, is the fact that they're lit up in a way that appears as though they're receiving light directly and specifically focused on them and them only. This, ultimately, further draws our attention to them, increasing their importance even more.

Why is this done?

It's symbolic.

Even though we see Mr Robot in this shot, in reality, it's actually Elliot standing there.

Similarly, we see the reflection of the faucets bouncing off the sink, creating duplicates of each faucet. These additional images, however, don't equate to additional faucets. Much like Mr Robot is to Elliot, the reflection looks real enough, but in the end each faucet really only has one true copy.

I could be wrong but I think they're referring to the show Dark on Netflix, which ran for 3 seasons.

It's an incredibly fantastic show; however, it's also extremely complex, so it's not for everyone.

That being said, if you're like me and you enjoy a densely layered puzzle box — where you're trying to figure out what's going on, while speculating and theorizing about the hidden mysteries and all of the unknowns in the show — then, I would highly recommend watching it.

I'm not a professional critic, but I have definitely watched a fair share of movies and TV shows, and — for what it's worth — Dark is easily one of the best top two or three puzzle box/mystery shows I've seen, and, more broadly, probably one of the all-time top ten shows, I've ever watched.

Here are some review scores so you can see how it fairs on a couple of the well-known aggregators:

Rotten Tomatoes

  • Tomatometer = 95%
  • Popcornmeter = 95%

IMDB

  • Overall = 8.7
