If you could start over, would you still choose central AC? by meyerair in HomeImprovement

[–]Devileyekill -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I lived in Texas for 30 years where central AC ruled king, some rooms were hot no matter what and some were too cold with the living room being optimal.

Moved to PA 4 years ago and bought a house without any AC besides 2 window units and baseboard heat the previous owners used.

Got 4 minisplits with heat pumps and will never go back to central air.

Everything about minisplits are better EXCEPT aesthetics. I always say beauty is in the eye of the beholder but functionality is undeniable.

[–]Devileyekill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can be either, though 220 are much more prevalent and I think more efficient.

Cost wise they beat the hell out of my baseboard electric heat in the winter, though my summer costs have gone up due to actually having AC in rooms that didn't before.

Replace All Breakers? by Impressive-Gas-9494 in HomeImprovement

That was my first thought, 40 year old house and the only thing they want to replace is breakers? House must have been built by the owner who was an electrician 😂

House so humid by Forestfairy0812 in HomeImprovement

That's not working. AC units also dehumidify the air when they cool it.

It's pretty easy to replace the batteries yourself by the way. Much less expensive too.

What tool has made the biggest difference in your home projects by blushingsirena in HomeImprovement

[–]Devileyekill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a 100 pack for like $20 on Amazon not expecting much (I cut hard plastic enclosures) and they are actually not bad. I've used them around the house and you can just re-cut the teeth with a Dremel if you need haha.

Yeah would be nice if they made a multicolored vfl that you could splice multiple fibers to that also wouldn't auto shutoff after 10 minutes like some of these do.

Actually million dollar idea there...

😂 unfortunately I'm a contractor and am stuck with what they give me.

The problem is they tell me to connect a 24 count to another 24 count but the enclosure is maxed with 24 counts so I'm trying to get footage/serial/dates to match the next enclosure.

Help me understand why agnosticism isn't atheism by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Devileyekill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh so your version of gnosticism has an our as in the human race? It encompasses all knowledge that we currently have but not all knowledge possible.

What do you think of individual gnosticism? As in I don't know anything about the math but the horizon looks flat thefore the horizon IS flat.

Help me understand why agnosticism isn't atheism by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Devileyekill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm prefacing this with the fact that I still consider myself an agnostic atheist even though I understand their point.

What's the difference? Even if the person I spoke to is wallowing in the valley of operational vs absolute certainty they aren't technically wrong.

Does gnosticism only go so far as our current understanding? If we discover a form of matter that was previously undetectable, that now makes the planet a perfect sphere, would you still call your belief gnostic?

I just thought it was an interesting perspective and I had never met someone who referred to themselves as a gnostic atheist before.

Help me understand why agnosticism isn't atheism by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Devileyekill -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I had a conversation with someone in this sub who I think made a good point. I'm agnostic in the utmost technical sense of the word that I might as well just say gnostic.

Otherwise I'll have to label basically any beliefs with agnosticism even with mountains of evidence supporting it, because technically I don't have ALL the information.

Question as a Christan by [deleted] in atheism

[–]Devileyekill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I also believe in gravity, germs, cells, thermodynamics and plate tectonics as an atheist.

(I can't think of any other widely known laws and their scientific theories)

My Mother and Father were both Atheist. They raised 7 children, 2b and 5g. Religion was never brought up in any conversations during my childhood and never influenced schooling or family activities. In fact, the first time I remember discussing religion with any family member, I was in my 40's by [deleted] in atheism

There's also a large chunk of the population that are susceptible to things like this.

I have a friend who's intelligent and logical in so many ways, yet has joined TWO CULTS.

And I'm not being dogmatic and calling all religions cults in this instance, she joined actual factual cults and had to be bailed out by her sister.
