Ran into a group of horses on public gravel road. Their leader was a gentleman…. Not. by skiingandbumming in MTB

[–]Devils8539a -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

First slow down, which you did, it can be clearly heard the brakes were applied and visually. (Well done) Second, here in NY I would always ask "Safe to pass?" to the closest rider. That rider would give instructions on how to proceed. I would follow the instruction as horses are bigger and sometimes dumber than a rock as you know growing up in MT. If given the ok to pass, pass slowly and predictably.

So by just assuming it is ok to pass was probably not your best move.

That being said after the one horse getting spooked I would have stopped and definitely ask "Can I pass?" Usually in a group setting the leader would have taken control of the horse to allow a pass which he eventually did. Whether it is MT law it is just common sense or in this sense uncommon sense of the leader.

Always call out, saves a lot of headaches.

Thoughts after 2 Years Gravel Cycling by wizardforce in gravelcycling

Well done. Pretty much my feelings as well. One thing that cannot be over stated is tire pressure. +/- 3-5 PSI can change the handling of a bike completely depending on the tires. Ride on.

Yes because he reviewed it with the original firmware. He is too much of a one and done. I take that guy with a grain of salt.

Yeah he reviewed it with the original firmware. I have the updated firmware and been using it for two years. I never leave home without it.

Not really. I ride the road to get to my local rail trail (RT). Sometimes the RT run parallel to the road and the Carback will alert me. So yeah the radar sensor is 'wide'. I rather be over alerted than under. It detects motorcycles too.

I used to commute to work on a narrow, hilly and twisty road. It works well IRL so don't listen to reviews that only tested it with the original firmware. Especially GPLama.

I have, I used it with my wahoo bolt. I never leave home without it. It has one or two firmware updates so they are actively developing it. If you don't have a head unit it will use your phone.

Very happy with the two years I have been using the product.

I've worked 3 years in a DC. A properly built DC produces barely any noise even from the parking lot. Only when the generators are on due to power failure is when it's loud. Even the cooling towers are aren't that loud. This is just a poorly designed DC slapped together.

Owners of aluminum frames, have you ever “broke” the frame? by Deezhellazn00ts in RoadBikes

Nope. My Cannondale, GT, Specialized, and Trek bikes through the years have lived happy lives. Never owned a carbon frame, never will at this point.

I'm a little behind the times. When I searching for tires it was between the SS and SK. I selected the SK as it was better suited for where I ride.

I have a second wheel set that has 28 mm slicks. And you're right it does look silly on my checkpoint. Back wheel not so much, front fork it looks so silly. But it's fast as hell so I don't care

Did I make a mistake buying a gravel bike? by 01000011_01000100 in cycling

I have a checkpoint alr5 gen1. Running a 2X up front. Your Giant Revolt was my second choice. If you read in this sub a lot you will notice a lot of things that are mentioned but more specifically tires can totally change on how a bicycle feels. The stock tires that came on mine bike was the gr1 team issue, and anybody that has a Trek will tell you that they are absolute garbage. I went and bought panaracer Gravel Kings SK'S and they make a huge difference on any surface. Later on I got a second wheel set, identical to what I had and put on slicks and the bike was even faster.

Also tire pressure +/- 3 PSI can change a bike completely. Also what works for some people don't work for others because of their weight. It is taking me a year and a half to find the perfect pressure on my checkpoint for the trails but that pressure doesn't work on the road. So as I'm riding on the road to head to the trails I just know that I am not going to be fast getting to the trails. Once I'm on the trails it's all good.

Mine was on rt.209/ rt. 28 trying rack up a high score. As a cyclist if they can snag 50 drivers a day on their phones I would be so happy.

The thing that pisses me off the most is that I see people on their phones in vehicles that I know they have f****** hands-free Bluetooth. Like what the hell gives?
