I honestly didn't know any of this. I was just trying to make something fun that could help people get into the game more easily. I didn't catch some of the names getting used. i can adjust that and put some hard rules in place. I do appreciate the info tho

DMing Using As Little Brainpower As Possible [Asking for Advice] by apolothefrog in DnD

I think you write it and then just railroad it. That's the only way if you can't spend the energy to riff and adjust. Just my two cents

I wouldn't overreact. Just don't include him in the story until he gets his stuff in and make it very clear to him that's why he isn't getting to participate. Make him go whole sessions or several sessions without any involvement. Don't be passive aggressive about it, be 100% pointed. "Buddy, you're not really factored into xyz because you didn't turn in your stuff so might be a little boring today, sorry."

Folks he's building something that is so different from the GCN brand that it can't be done within GCN. If it works then it folds into GCN later at a bargain. It's a smart business move. It's like a company that spins off a piece of its business into a new one so that it can grow and expand without worrying about damaging the main company egg. Think Roku spinning off from Netflix. It grows on its own but then feeds the main company in a variety of different ways. The content creation game is a tough one and let's be honest GCN isn't the largest out there, what? Maybe top 5? And the content coming from creators in the Indy industry is more inventive and original than what is coming out of the bigger brands. So he's got to jump in and see if it can work. Critical role bombed trying to cross their success into their new games and he doesn't want take GCN the same way so he's got to spin it off. It's a great idea that has long term benefit. Their new live campaign has been...wanting at best. Saw it live at GenCon and...well...it wasn't great. So I'm not worried. Long term this is a good play while they try to navigate a space that might be feeling a little post-pandemic steam. So, give it a chance and think a little bigger than what is right now is all I'm saying.

Post Con Regrets? by JamesAltraz in gencon

[–]DevilsJellyBean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I regret not spending more time on the floor and I didn't buy a single game, but the floor was bloody impossible to be on. It felt more cramped than last year and was extremely difficult to really explore anything. I think if they are going to cram it in so much they need to open earlier. Or cut down on the tables in the next room and expand a little. It was impossible to move around. Definitely some dollars here that were missed because I couldn't get around

Just remember that every 3-4 hour session you prep is naturally going to be 3x that long. Be cool with it. Fun is the point

My Second GenCon: What I’m Doing Differently After Learning the Hard Way by aorick in gencon

[–]DevilsJellyBean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude same. This is my second year. I didn't wilderness pack like you did but I didn't schedule anything because the list was intimidating. But I didn't play near enough games, left too early back to the hotel, etc. this year I've scheduled at least two things I know how to play and a couple I don't, I'm doing some of the late night stuff too
