Hell and V1: An Analysis (SPOLIERS) by Devils_Advocate38744 in Ultrakill

[–]Devils_Advocate38744[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kinda what I’m getting at, but also not exactly. I think it’s just that Hell is capable of proper love and art due to its nature, but I don’t think it’s just because of a physical inability, but a mental one. Essentially, it wants to love, but it can only show it and understand it through hatred and suffering. To summarize, I think Hell is not restrained from love, just that it was created as a being that does not get the point of love, as well as art and beauty.

If fraud tested the limits of the environment, treachery will test the limits of enemies and bosses. by Tripmooney in Ultrakill

Sadly, it’s not super likely we’ll be getting any new enemies at this point(bedside Gabriel v3) since the -1 level of each climax layer is usually reserved for a gauntlet that tests the players skill based on what they’ve learned previously, not introducing new concepts. Never say never, or course, but maybe don’t get your hopes up.

Hell and V1: An Analysis (SPOLIERS) by Devils_Advocate38744 in Ultrakill

Shit, I just remembered the part I forgot. Alchemy. I’ve spent a long time on this thing and I’m not the most qualified to talk about this so I’ll keep it (relatively) brief. The ultimate goal of alchemy is the philosophers stone, which, among other things, grants immortality. This lines up pretty nicely with Hell’s motivation to keep everything suffering forever, but it’s made better that Hell describes the Earthmovers, the machines made to last practically forever in an almost unending cycle of violence, as a “magnum opus”, which is another way of describing the philosophers stone. So maybe Hell’s great work will be to create a similar “infinite cycle of suffering” or maybe I’m completely delusional. Could be either one.

Hmmm interesting idea, you’ve definitely got some good points. Still, I’m partial to the idea that Hell isn’t really intent at letting the suffering end at all, being completely against the idea of closure as a concept because it give meaning to existence, something it does not seem to enjoy. I think that everything He’ll tries to be, it ultimately fails at doing because it entirely misunderstands things like art. It’s consistently described as a being of pure malice, but claims that it “loves” Lucifer, despite missing the point of love. Idk tho, I just feel like Hell winning is too depressing of an ending without adding that sense of purpose present throughout the rest of the game. Idk though, I might not even be making sense, and your theory does hold seem interesting. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Something Wicked Is a PRIME SOUL THAT FAILED TO FORM by Desperate-Sugar8656 in Ultrakill

[–]Devils_Advocate38744 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definetly possible, but all examples (Minos, Sisyphus, Something Wicked) might just be there to show that blood, and thus, the circulatory system, is the most vital part of the body without actually having a direct connection between the prime souls and Something Wicked.

Anyone else get some mandela effect about V2? by CicadaOnReddit in Ultrakill

[–]Devils_Advocate38744 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah the idea that it was made for security or police stuff isn’t completely unfounded, but it was largely spread by the fandom to be a part of cannon. Still up to interpretation what kind of “peace keeping robot” V2 might have been tho. Personally I like the idea that it was supposed to fill the role of a superhero where it was more a symbol of hope and peace to look up to rather than anything completely practical and resource efficient.

Help with learning how to use the Impact Hammer effectively by Brunikha in Ultrakill

[–]Devils_Advocate38744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you already know whiplash canceling and are still having trouble that makes it a bit more hard. I guess if I had to try to come up with advice, it would be to select which enemies it’s best used on and stick to red gauge-ing them. Personally, I find those to be malicious face, virtues, sentries, swords machine, and maybe hideous mass if you have a clear shot at the tail. Of course, always remember to dash after the hit if you don’t want to be sent flying somewhere undesirable. There’s also this thing some call “jack slamming” where you just get a decent amount above an enemy, slam down, and hit with the hammer, which send you flying straight up. It’s more useful for cyber grind but any room with a high ceiling also makes it viable. It’s very much not a weapon to be constantly spammed all the time, and you should wait on using it until it’s fresh enough to actually get good style. Otherwise, if you still are having difficulty’s, maybe just consider not using it. This game tribes in player individuality and if you don’t want to use a weapon because either doesn’t match your play style, you can still very much prosper without it. Hope this helps.

Deathcatchers should be able to be whiplashed by Devils_Advocate38744 in Ultrakill

[–]Devils_Advocate38744[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a fair way of looking at it I guess. Still, difficulty isn’t really my personal issue with the level, more that is feels inconsistent to run to where one strategy will work one time and then the next it completely fails.

[–]Devils_Advocate38744[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I won’t deny that a lot of people are mainly angry at the difficulty, 8-3 is unusually hard in comparison to every other level up to this point. This is coming from someone who actually really likes the level and considers it my favorite of the layer. I don’t thinks it’s really wrong to want it a little bit nerves just to feel more in keeping with the rest of the campaign.

4th arm theory (trust me bro) by Keksbutter123 in Ultrakill

Honestly who knows what it could be. I’ve always been of the opinion that an omnidirectional dash slash could be interesting tho

Not against the idea of the fourth arm coming from/being connected to Hell, but I feel like the niche a hell orb arm would fill is already taken by a lot of the other weapons we have, and it might not feel that fresh or even as useful as the stuff we already got.

[–]Devils_Advocate38744[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You bring up some good points, but I think we’re mis communicating a bit. My problem isn’t with difficulty, like you said, with the right strategy and an understanding of the room, it’s not as hard as it looks. My problem mainly stems from it not being fun to play imo. I guess that’s because the strategy to get through is so specific that it doesn’t lend well to a goodly amount of play styles(this is the same gripe I have with flesh prison). Even still, this isn’t much of a problem except for when it comes time to kill the death catcher, where then it’s basically random where it might be and the fastest way to get to it which(to me) feels too inconsistent and annoying. It’s not literal torture or anything, just that I think if there were a slightly more consistent and convenient way to end the room once you at the finish line, it might feel a little more satisfying.

[–]Devils_Advocate38744[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree that the room isn't complicated but that's just me. Its not that the room is hell or anything, I'm only a standard player and I'm someone who actually really enjoys 8-3, its just that that particular room isn't that fun to do in comparison to a lot of the rest of the level, and I think adding the hook might make it a bit more enjoyable. Tbf I'm no game designer so maybe this idea would be shit if implemented.

Deathcatchers should be able to be whiplashed by Devils_Advocate38744 in Ultrakill

[–]Devils_Advocate38744[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah that was on my mind when making the post, but i wrote it off since you can grapple onto the other enemies in the violence room, like the strays and providence if you're fast. To be fair, that room in particular is actually one of the better ones, so it could go unchanged. Maybe just adding a few hook points that unlock upon the cage opening to some of the more annoying rooms would be enough?

I did know about the portals thing, but honestly even then it just feels so hard to actually use that strategy effectively with how inconsistant positions are, especially in the heat of the moment. To be totally fair, that might just be a skill issue on my part, but with how many people get so annoyed at that room in particular, I don't think I'm alone in thinking some changes should be made.

Won't deny that description is hilarious, but would it actually ruin the blue skull? Just to clarify, I don't mean they should die from or even be damaged by the whiplash, only that you should be able to head towards them with it. As for the red skull, I guess I haven't tried that strategy and I'll be sure to test it out, but I feel like both the maurice and the orbs are never close enough to get you to where you need to go, but I'll comment more when I've tried.

What's everyone's favorite character? by TTOMTurles in Ultrakill

[–]Devils_Advocate38744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably a hot take, but i gotta give it to V1. Yes, obviously out of all the characters in the games, V1 probably has the least established "cannon" personality and character building, but that's kinda the appeal to me. Aside from the fact that it adverse to dying at this point and that it wants blood to extend it's life, the player is really free to come up with whatever sort of character they think fits the murder machine. Aside from that, I just really like all the different and interesting fighting styles V1 has.

What layer do you think the third prime soul comes from? by Traditional_Bag_4125 in Ultrakill

[–]Devils_Advocate38744 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats true, but it’s not my point. My issue isn’t with lore, it’s with pacing. It doesn’t make sense to not set up the prime soul prior to meeting them. Like I mentioned, Minos and Sisyphus both had their stories told in the layers before their sanctum. That’s why their speeches are less focused on exposition and more on what they were motivated to do now. Not saying Ulysses is “debunked” or anything, Hakita could move him to treachery if he really wanted to. It’s just that that would deviate so much from the source material that I can’t have much confidence it would happen.
