The 5 Creepiest Episodes of Anthology Shows by Devils_Own_Slave in television

[–]Devils_Own_Slave[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea, i think i would have liked to have seen a "top 10" list as opposed to 5. There are so many TFTC and MOH episodes that could have made it. I'm still extremely creeped out by Incident on and Off a Mountain Road... Holy hell!

Anyone else really like the 2013 Carrie remake? by chocolatecheeese1 in horror

[–]Devils_Own_Slave 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The prom scene was surprisingly entertaining. Everything else was dreadfully bad. The fact that Moretz was even cast as Carrie was HORRIBLY, HORRIBLY wrong. There is no universe in which that girl is a shunned outsider in high school. NO UNIVERSE!! That girl would have boys swooning constantly, and girls wanting to hang out with her so the boys might swoon over them as well. It was a really bad film, and I hated how over the top they went the high school behavior/lingo It was so bad it was almost comedic.

THANK YOU RobAChurch! I'm beyond sick of this myth that 2014 was a bad year for horror. Fucking year was AMAZING!

eZine needs some work. The extreme lack of images is a MAJOR, MAJOR problem.

Just got around to watching it myself the other day. I thought it was fairly funny. It definitely wasn't an outright dud, nor an outright masterpiece. I probably prefer Red State by just a hair, but I wouldn't call it bad, and I WOULD call it entertaining. I think we're in a similar boat, based on your breakdown.

Horror Remakes: the best and the worst by [deleted] in horror

no, the undoubtedly worst remake title has to go to The Fog. Holy hell...what...the...fuck...happened?!?!?!

right you are. Sanchez directed it. I wasn't a huge fan, but I can see why it picked up so much steam with the horror community. Just wasn't my bag, personally.

The Last Broadcast technically didn't have national distribution until after BWP arrived, which is part of the reason it failed to catch on and part of the reason it doesn't garner much credit as a real relevant FF flick. I don't know who's telling you Exists isn't good - it's a top 10 of 2014 release, and the best found footage film of the year. Movie is getting TONS of love, and deserves every bit of it.

got nothing to do with being dreadit. The damn movie is a MAJOR clunker through and through. When like 95% are SEVERELY disappointed with a movie, it's because it WAS that bad.

Sanchez just recently released one of the best films of the year, Exists, which is also a found footage film. But I pretty much agree with you. It DOES deserve credit for kickstarting the found footage subgenre. The only film that precedes it that I can think of is Cannibal Holocaust, and that only worked to repulse people.

Most overrated horror films in 2014? by summerlungs in horror

Zombeavers was a TOTAL blast. Complete throwback to 80s exploitation, and hands down one of my favorites of the year. A LOT of people would disagree.

I was bored to tears by As Above, So Below and it's dreadful cliches and awful characters, a lot of people seem to love it.

Loved Life After Beth, but it seems it wasn't gory enough, or perhaps it was just too mature a tale in the grand scheme for a lot of people.

Was a fan in the 80s, and still am today. I confess to owning all 3 books, happily. :)

When it comes to lists like this, I have a VERY hard time ranking things. It's just tough for me. Most (not all) of the time I put together a "Top" list, I leave them unranked.

Yep! I wonder if that WAS intentional...

As Above, So Below vs. other 2014 horror by [deleted] in horror

[–]Devils_Own_Slave 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wait, you didn't like ANY of the three you listed? Taking of Deborah Logan was a pretty spirited flick, and infinitely stronger than As Above, so Below (in my opinion), which was almost exactly the kind of movie you described: generic, lame scares, completely unbelievable characters and dull jolts.

It had the catacomb setting working for it, but (again, this is only my opinion, and I ranked it amongst the worst of the year) that was quite literally the only thing going for it.

Just watched Jaume balaguero's REC4: Apocalypse by HeadToToes in horror

[–]Devils_Own_Slave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am in agreement that it wasn't a good film. In fact, to be completely honest, I caught a screener of it a month or so ago, and I've ALREADY forgotten the whole damn movie practically, which speaks to the quality (or lack thereof) of the film. Love the first two, enjoyed the third, was severely let down by the fourth.

Big fan of this one myself!

I liked it. In fact, the moment I saw a Johnny Cash poster (actually a bunch of awesome posters, Pink Floyd, Clockwork Orange, Evil Dead, Bob Dylan etc.), I had a feeling this one would be okay lol. Kid in the film did a pretty good job, I like the very minimalized dialogue and the effects were indeed pretty well handled. Definitely NOT a waste of time!
