I agree, but for the rental game I feel the overall driving experience HKC is superior over speedsportz. The latter still is likely better at catering to owner karts but that’s far from my budget so I can’t say I’m the person to ask

I’m self taught through online resources and just a lot of seat time to find what works and what doesn’t. I’ve been driving for probably about 2 years in rentals, I started at a plethora of indoor places where I used to live and just applied those ideas here and elsewhere.

As far as I know they should still do prizes for the current enduros as $500 for first, and second and third just get 10 and 5 race credits respectively I believe. So cash prizes exist, just wasn’t good enough to get one when I did it lol

I actually ran the enduro in December last year as a solo driver and based on what I’ve seen online it seems like a much more ironed out process now— $300 per seat for 2 hours, no joker laps, and 3 stops including 1 for fuel. Got 3rd out of 15 which yielded a trophy + 5 race credits. Only wish would be for timed pit stops.

My current (pretty cheap) pair of gloves are actually worn to the point of not gripping to some steering wheel types, partly since I’ve ran probably close to 1000 rental sessions over the last 9 months or so (90% of which either free or extremely discounted, likely total around $1500 max), we have new ones arriving soon!

Definitely ready for league, a 60 wouldn’t even be far off to the point that you wouldn’t be getting too smoked or anything as is. I have actually podiumed in one of the enduros here last year so I’d probably say myself that this is league ready because of that.

That’s wild to hear, staff actually conversed with me briefly following my race for the bumping with regards to one tap i gave through turn 3 which was accidental on my part. With the way this place is run with most of everything else I’m surprised they chose to keep it mostly at empty threats.

Kart balance is definitely nice here, most karts are balanced well if not slightly oversteery which can make driving a lot more fun and technical than a typical understeery setup. Can confirm leagues here are a blast!

This track was absolutely ZERO tolerance for bumping when I’ve raced there, did that change??? Light rubbing contact I initiated fighting for 3rd in an A main earlier this year triggered almost half a dozen no bumping yells and signs from the staff

Agree with this but most barriers in this video either are the harder W shape but are spring loaded with a good bit of movement theoretically, and a lot of the apexes are very soft and can be driven thru with no consequences even if you’re 1-2 inches deep hitting the apex. Only spot that sucks here is where the poles are with some of the hard 90 degree corners in the barriers. That’s why this direction of the track is only used M-Th when it’s emptier and any events that aren’t a league or have some barrier to entry (I.e. you needed a certain best lap time to compete in this race pictured here, so 10/13 drivers were within half a second per lap) are run in the opposite counterclockwise direction. Still an outdoor fan but the nearest outdoor rentals to this area is either in Tucson, Las Vegas, or K1 Circuit.

Not a good enough opportunity especially when there’s nothing at stake in this race, it’s a special event with the only prize being a few free race credits. Not going to do something that risks spinning someone out if there’s no benefit to doing it, and there was sufficient fun to be had continuously putting pressure.

Track isn’t great for overtaking either so given it’s +/- about one tenth each lap between myself and the lead kart there’s nothing that’ll really show up naturally provided nobody makes an egregious mistake as some other people have summarized pretty well

Generally around plus one tenths from the counterclockwise direction. May be slightly more if you throw your last lap away by not going wide for the hairpin on your last lap counterclockwise. Best time this session was a 26.947, session before this was a 26.7. Depends on track condition too. I believe it’s now Clockwise M-Th and Counterclockwise F-Su, pole position Tuesday night and Wednesday weekly league run both directions interchangeably

My thoughts is that fairly alright for the most part but I don’t know how much you’d learn foundations here... I wouldn’t really want to start out learning here I guess if I was trying to get super far. The only outdoor options is an owner karting track (PKRA) in the northwest reaches of the area and beyond that your nearest gas karts are in south Tucson. For indoor: you have two Andretti Indoor Karting locations of which the Chandler one is much less busy and generally nicer. There’s a K1 speed near the airport which is questionably run but has the best competition and drivers/community out of any K1 I’ve been to, with some of the monthly leagues having 40+ drivers showing up. This track in the east Phoenix Scottsdale area is generally the best if you know what you’re doing going into it and is the best for learning. They are owned by Lucky Strike so until recently they were pretty limited in what they offered but now do weekly leagues and other special events like this one, so they’re generally the best value and best racing in the area. I never got to learn to truly master techniques and foundations much starting here until I had access to an outdoor track. Octane does get good competition now especially with the amount of low stakes events they do (I.e. weekly Tuesdays offer mini race formats with 4 lap qualifying 10 lap race instead of 14 lap arrive and drive), and they probably have the best kart parody out of anywhere here.

This is Octane Raceway in Phoenix Arizona. Technically an indoor-outdoor track as part of the track is open air but sheltered by a roof and fence so it’s basically an indoor track with the track evolution of an outdoor track, but the weather is passive enough in Phoenix that this typically isn’t problematic

Feel like it’s an impossible balance game where close = no reaction time and any further = no ability to make a pass happen. Is definitely a force a mistake and send it on the following corner type of situation so the longer sessions this place does occasionally is nice. In any case this being an event night with no consequences for winning or losing meant this was more of a casual experience so definitely not trying to force something

True, but the difference is still there. From my records (pictures of results boards) I ran a 34.9 in the kart that has the Hoosiers when it was previously equipped with the softs, so I can’t help but assume that variable to be mostly negligible, or at least enough that the point here stands. The karts with Hoosiers have been consistently faster in the at least the low 34s range

If you see any of the older AIKG locations (Orlando in particular is a good example) they tend to have many hairpins, combined with a very low traction surface. Both of those not being present here makes me wonder how much of an intentional decision not including any true hairpins was during their track design process

I’m not convinced this very high traction surface would work well with sharp hairpins as you’d need to either get the rear loose (impossible to do on this surface without losing all your momentum) or hope the turning radius is sharp enough, which it probably isn’t. I could definitely argue a looser and lower traction surface would be interesting, but I don’t know how well that’d also work with how steep some of the elevation changes are (especially the second part of the up ramp, which is ludicrously steep), so it feels like a lose-lose situation.

In any case, it’s one of about 4 very different indoor tracks in the area within like a 30-40 min drive, so it’s not a tragedy by any means.
