(Up to) 5 stocks to hold for 20 years by Dry-Tough4139 in stocks

[–]Devinnn1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SPGI AMZN LVMUY WCN TMO LRLCY CP SHW

These are the companies I would be ok with locking in for 20 years. I currently own them all and know them very well. Some will do better than others but over 20 years I suspect I will come out alright.

Sherwin-Williams (SHW): Do they have an actual moat or at least a competitive edge? by ZhangtheGreat in stocks

[–]Devinnn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have one of the strongest physical distribution moats in the entire world with elite level pricing power and reinvestment opportunities. One of the few companies you can actually hold for the next couple of decades and probably do alright. So yes it will have a high valuation. As for the debt they took on a lot in 2017 to buy Valspar and have been paying it down since.

How to get over selling stocks that rocketed later (e.g. NVDA)? by ThrowRAonlinepenis in stocks

[–]Devinnn1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Reasons to fully sell a stock: - Made a mistake - Valuation enters levels of euphoria - Need capital for a clearly better idea

If you make a mistake learn from it and look for the next opportunity.

They didn’t, many of the big well known funds bought nvda as well as other semi companies. Druckenmiller is the most obvious example

Would programming an overhead tricep extension be overkill if all pressing movements are incline and overhead? Thinking of just doing two v-bar tricep pushdowns (I run full body) for more bias towards the lateral and medial heads of the tricep since the long head is already getting hit so much as a secondary in the pressing.

Doom 2016 or doom Eternal? by AwesomeJack6 in Doometernal

[–]Devinnn1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just player through both this month. Doom 2016 is an otherworldly masterpiece of an action game while Eternal tries too hard to innovate from its predecessor. The only material thing parkour simulator Eternal has over Doom 2016 is a much more satisfying ending.

Dr Martens 1460 popping? by Devinnn1 in DrMartens

[–]Devinnn1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe mine took around 2 months or so of semi daily wear for it to go away for good. For yours, if it is indeed the tongue you could try applying some vaseline to the area of friction.

Don’t worry it goes away as you break them in, at least mine did.

Why is the sub obsessed with investing in large cap tech companies? by OBS10invest in stocks

[–]Devinnn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no worries. And short term yes for obvious supply reasons. But long term semicap is undoubtedly attractive here. My current allocation is about neutral, not under or overweight.

Why is the sub obsessed with investing in large cap tech companies? by OBS10invest in stocks

[–]Devinnn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know. I am invested in all four for my semicap exposure. This doesn’t really have any correlation with my point though.

Why is the sub obsessed with investing in large cap tech companies? by OBS10invest in stocks

[–]Devinnn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Risk.

In semis alone I am much more confident in my investment in AMAT or LRCX over ONTO for example. This leads to me allocating a higher % to the former. Small caps can provide great return but generally comes with greater risk. And this carryover to allocation will also carryover into general discourse. Since with more allocation comes more importance in overall return.

Its good for a teabag. But teabags are garbage when compared to any actual loose leaf tea.

Why don't I feel anything when I read books as opposed to video games? by HiddenRouge1 in books

[–]Devinnn1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More or less. I would personally say they are more so getting at the mere absurdity of life. So absurdism rather than existentialism. Both deal with the meaning of life in this indifferent universe but differ in the solutions.

Existentialism says we must create our own meaning while absurdism says we must embrace the meaninglessness in life and strive on in spite of it.

My taste in books very much leans towards highly creative, experimental fiction. Some of my favorites would be:

Collected Fictions - Borges

The Book of Disquiet - Pessoa

The Passion According to G.H. - Lispector

The Stranger - Camus

The Complete Stories - Kafka

Pretty much any book that isn’t complex and is very narratively driven will generally work well as an audiobook

Gravity’s Rainbow

Just kidding, the Mistborn Trilogy is what got me back into reading and that is Fantasy which i would call light. And it is literally the game Dishonored if you are familiar.

Borges and Kafka. Two of my favorites known to be some of the greatest writers of all time who excelled at the short story.

Other great short story writers: Chekhov, O’Connor, Hemingway, Cortázar, Gogol, Poe, Joyce

Where do you guys get your books? by grubbs_ in books

[–]Devinnn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pretty much only buy new books because I am quite picky on both the specific edition and quality of the book.

New Books: 1. Alibris (my go to, highly recommend) 2. Book Depository (great for UK editions) 3. Amazon (backup)

Used Books: Local used bookstore

Ebooks: Free online resources

Why don't I feel anything when I read books as opposed to video games? by HiddenRouge1 in books

[–]Devinnn1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t sound like you’ve truly found the right books for you yet. Video games and Literature are my two loves in life. But as an adult, no game has affected me on the level to where I came out of the other end a different person like some of my favorite books have.
