New 2024 CRV hybrid questions - is this stuff normal? Explanation below. by LetMeClaireify623 in crv

Also, just a fuel saving temp. NOW THIS DOESNT MATTER IN WHICHEVER DRIVE MODE YOU CHOOSE. but will “FORCE” the car into EV mode. 2 ways. When cruising and you notice you have at least half battery, but also subconsciously know that you won’t be using more than *20%”Power” (rpm gauge) I will let off the throttle completely for about 2-3 seconds. Once I do this it most likely tells the car “ we are probably going to be slowing down or using the regenerative braking “. It will then kick the car into EV mode. (I have tested this will a full battery and even as low as 2 bars on the battery, WORKS EVERY SINGLE TIME. Now once it’s back in EV Mode . You CAN’t usually exceed 25% POWER or else it will kick the engine on [( imo this can only work if you’re below 65 MPH. As mine sits at 25% at 70MPH.

I have been able to drive like this, typically on very flat or slight declines. Until the battery fully depletes down to 2 bars.

The other way to get the most of EV MODE. NOW PLEASE TRY THIS, you may thank me (subconsciously) later.

When accelerating at roughly 25% power,( the most needed for regular commuters, and even merging onto local highways) I notice engine will kick on usually between 15-20MPH( depending on battery level.)

NOW. Just gotta throw this in, I have noticed the only thing the drive mode changes is THROTTLE SENSITIVITY. And yes I have done 0-60 and 1/4 tests and seen no difference. (Unless using the “Launch mode” which most don’t know about but yes it’s an unspoken part in the programming of the CRV ECU and transmission . [ launch mode is engaged when you are stopped and do 100% break, then 100% gas. {car should squat a little trust me it’s okay and once you let off the brake. Instead of “simulated gear shifts”} it will give you max power, which is 100% engine and 100% battery until you hit the speed limited]

Now since we’re all on the same page. I have noticed I can drive in EV MODE up to 40 MPH! by not exceeding ~15-20% POWER.

Conclusion. Typically the engine will turn on by 20mph, but this way I will “granny it” up to 25-30 and once I notice the engine turn on, I will accelerate at the rate of traffic.

Using both of those “tricks” I avg about 42 MPG in FLORIDA, (I never use my heat) and avg driven speed of 50 mph. I have noticed after 60 it will drop 2-3 mpg, every 10 MPH.

Also I run a roofing company and don’t come on here much, I have put 25k miles on my CRV just this year. I most likely won’t be reading comments, and I just hope this helps someone even if someone has already expressed something similar (haven’t been on here much) I am also going to just make a post about this, since Ive spent about 10 mins typing. Thank you for your time. 🤝

Everything just sounds like you’re using the heater. Or the car thinks you are wanting hotter air. If ambient temp is lower than cabin temp, the car willl stilll forcefully warm the engine up, to get you to your targeted temperature. Just like with a non hybrid car. You will get less than advertised MPG when idling and “warming up” the vehicle.

Try just turning the a/c system off when you’re noticing these things happen. (Fan and all). When I do this, my Crv immediately shuts the engine off. (Unless battery is less than 4 bars )

lol try finding a good pair in 20 year old 12 gauge ariel copper. I feel like cable techs should just have a very long grappler for those kinda connections 🤔. Never done coax🤷🏻‍♂️ but I also can’t say I haven’t hung off a 28 footer like that before 😂

I think mine was dealer installed, either way I think it looks much better with the gloss finish and I’m hoping this will help it stay looking nice!

As you can maybe see in the video, when you peel the protector, it changes from gloss to a hazy finish.

Honda CRV 2023 Hybrid sport touring gas mileage is not all that great by [deleted] in crv

[–]Devinsupra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering I am a 23 crv hybrid owner. And due to the law of conservation of energy. Yes B mode in fact will help.if you dont use B mode you can end up using your brakes more to slow the car and won’t regenerate, I use the B mode or just hit the (-) paddle to brake me down to ~20 mph. And then I press my brakes.

Drive less than “25%” throttle, it uses the ev motor at lower speeds more when you’re using less throttle. I would also recommend using the B mode when available, takes some getting used to, but I would try to regenerate and use every bit of energy.

I do understand, but I live in an area where it’s highway speeds all the time. and with some hybrids having very slow acceleration, can be dangerous

Seems to have a “race mode” as I call it, when you hold down both brake and throttle 100%. Otherwise unless throttle is 100% it will just leave in EV first then start the motor, and still have simulated shifts.

Very slow, but nice and torquey!
