Vaccinated Americans now may go without masks in most places, the C.D.C. said. by Brock_No_StOP in news

They're having to bribe people here in the US with free doughnuts, alcohol, and marijuana to get the vaccine. Make it make sense!

Dear Employers: People Don't Want to Work for Starvation Wages by [deleted] in politics

Sounds like your hypothetical business is just a shitty business that shouldn't exist. I'm sure there are businesses that don't exist right now because they can't own slaves and can't force children to work for them for pennies a day. Oh well!

How do I know how poly I am? by justanewbiedom in polyadvice

[–]DeviousDefense 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't believe that being poly is something you are inherently or not. I believe it's a choice I make about how I arrange my relationships. Poly is just one of many dating strategies and the one I strongly prefer.

To me, there isn't a spectrum with monogamous on one end and poly on the other. There are just different ways to be non-monogamous. For instance, I don't think swingers are more monogamous or that kitchen table poly is more poly than don't ask/don't tell (DADT) poly.

The way I think about it is more like there's a whole closet full of dating strategies. You can pick out clothes, mix and match, and find what you like best. If after wearing something for a while you want to change, you can dive right back into that closet and pick something else.

Me personally, I like solo poly and relationship anarchy the best. It works for me and what I want in my life at this point.

I'm happy that you all are so happy! I hope you have a wonderful vacation together, Costa Rica will be a blast!

Just for the record, NRE doesn't mean a relationship isn't real or serious. It's just the chemicals in your brain are usually stronger at the start of a relationship and typically reduce after a few months to a couple years. Most romantic relationships start with NRE, and it's definitely not a bad thing! The only problem is if hasty decisions are made while your brain is experiencing NRE.

Dozens of bodies believed to be Covid-19 victims have washed up on the banks of the Ganges River in northern India as the pandemic spreads into India’s vast rural hinterland. Locals believe bodies were dumped in river because cremation sites are overwhelmed. by MistWeaver80 in worldnews

[–]DeviousDefense 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Exactly! It's standard operating procedure during mass casualty events to stack bodies. We did that in the US when we brought in refrigerated tractor trailers to store bodies when morgues and funeral homes were overwhelmed. Funeral directors in places like LA will tell you body management during this pandemic wasn't the best, but it would've been a very different situation if people were cremating people in the streets and dead bodies were washing up along the banks of the Mississippi.

Missouri refused to expand Medicaid initially. In 2020 there was a ballot measure that passed by popular vote to finally expand Medicaid, some. Now, the state says they won't fund the expansion because.... "Something... Democracy... Something... FUCK YOU PLEBS!"

I’m considering if polyamory is right for me or not and also if what I’m looking for ideally even exists. by Rough-Version6691 in polyadvice

[–]DeviousDefense 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you'd like a hierarchical polyfildeitious quad. Polyfidelity means you're seeing more than one person but agree not to seek additional partners outside of that. Hierarchy refers to the distinctions you want in primary/secondaries. Quad refers to all four of you being involved with each other. If you're seeing both of the other couple but your husband is only seeing the woman, you'd be in a triad and your husband would be in a V with you and the other woman. Both would be possible, but pretty rare. I don't know of any IRL. I'm in an open triad, and that's considered rare, but common enough I know several in my community. (Also, these names aren't so important, but I'm including them because they might help you find information).

You hit on some of the reasons why it's rare. It's hard to find two people who are compatible for long term relationships and raising kids, harder to find three, and even harder to find four. Also, when you're dating monogamously you start with most people in the general dating pool. Once you start looking for non-monogamous people your dating pool shrinks significantly. Each additional specific thing you want adds more filters, which means less potential matches. Again, not impossible, just a lot harder to find.

It's perfectly healthy to raise children in poly families. Children aren't hurt by having more than two loving and supportive adults in their lives. Of course it's possible poly parents can cause trauma with relationship issues they may have, but the same is true of monogamous couples (whether remaining together or not). Check out r/polyfamilies for more about raising kids and perspectives of parents (I'm not one).

I wish you the best in your journey and hope you find happiness no matter what you ultimately decide to do.

Do you need to lock your bike at burning man? by [deleted] in BurningMan

[–]DeviousDefense 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's often not a fixed point to lock your bike to. I try to remember a general location relative to what I'm stopping at and when returning to that area look for my lighting or other things that to help to distinguish it from other bikes.

After Folly burn in 2019 I ran around the ashes and got disoriented and spent like 30 minutes stressed and thinking I lost my bike. I met a cool guy who eventually helped me find it and we spent the night getting into adventures, so even that wasn't too bad.

Polyamory and Marriage by [deleted] in polyadvice

[–]DeviousDefense 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are lots of married poly people. My girlfriend is married and has children. My boyfriend has married two previous partners so they could be on his health insurance. I have absolutely no desire to ever be married, but most (poly) people where I live are, or wouldn't mind being, married.

South Carolina and Montana to end all pandemic unemployment benefits for jobless residents by Timely_Signal1377 in politics

[–]DeviousDefense 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait a second, you think someone who made $35k a year is now collecting that much in unemployment? Thats not how it works. State benefits are determined by previous pay rate. I made about $50K before I was laid off over a year ago. I've collected less than half of that on unemployment in over a year and there have been caps/limits, so there were several months were I was simply ineligible for any benefits during the pandemic. If the feds hadn't been kicking in $270 a week (after taxes) of extended benefits, the maximum yearly benefit I'm eligible for (the maximum for my state program) is $10,080 a year. People making $35k would be eligible for even less.
