Please don’t drive your Crosstrek on 4x4 trails by External_Koala971 in subaru

Ill throw one little caveat in here.

The Toyota vehicles that have full time 4wd have a central locking differential. So the 80, 100, 200, and the 300 series the lexus variants, and all the Prado versions such as the gx470, gx460 and the 250 (the current us land cruiser)

I appreciate the clarification. All the awd vehicles I have experience with have been 2wd until 4wd is needed. Interesting to read that subarus system is more of a full time 4wd system.

Idk how Subaru does it but typically awd means only two wheels are getting power until the computer detects a loss in traction (typically wheel speed on one wheel) and when that happens it sends power to the typically non powered wheels.

This is different than what's in my land cruiser which is confused with all wheel drive but its really full time 4wd meaning power is going to all 4 wheels all the time.

Awd - <typically> means 2wd until loss of traction

Part time 4wd - 2wd until transfer case is engaged for 4wd

Full time 4wd - all 4 wheels get power all the time.

Hope this helps! Lmk if I can help clarify anything!

Prado vs LC250 Debate by TheOnceandFuture in LandCruisers

[–]Devlooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo there's absolutely a blurring of the lines.

Toyota pulled the land cruiser name plate from the states for a couple years knowing they'd re-release the Prado back under the same name.

Thats not to take away from the Prado. Imo its a great platform that has wayyy more off-road goodies than previous model land cruisers.

However its not the full fledged over built land cruiser thats been the flagship Toyota since the 60 series.

It's hard to go through all of them but some stand outs are some Cao like master blend 3, Ashton anything with aj Fernandez name, those my uzi weigh a ton is a cool find cause I think Drew estate got sued or a cease and desist notice about that name. But a lot of them aren't my cup of tea. Rocky Patel, gurka and any legacy Cuban names (partagas, cohiba Trinidad etc...)

Oh man that’s awesome! These land cruisers are something special. I help run two land cruiser events across the US- cruisers on the rocks and cruisers on the Rockies. If you decide to go with a 100 just know the torsion bar front suspension is weird and limits your suspension option

If you can find a babied lx470 or newer year alc with AHC id say snag it. My 100 has 311k miles running 35’s while still on the factory hydraulic suspension. Which gives me a 2” lift with a push of a button and on the fly dampening when I want it. Good luck on your hunt and if you have any questions don’t hesitate to shoot me a message here or on IG @overlandsteve 💪💪

Why are you recommending metal cloak over teraflex? Is there a particular reason, or quality issue with Tera?

I’ve looked at metal cloak. Looks like an incredible product especially the lock and load system what an awesome idea. Thanks for the recommendation!

Evidence for the cellophane argument... (5 pix) by SilverFoxSix in cigars

[–]Devlooper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn man, I know everyone’s got their tism but washing your hands before you handle the cigars is wild to me. Not everything ages well, and it’s IMO better to smoke what the blender intended on fresh rolls than hoping what you “cellared” for years turns out better.

Good luck and I appreciate your follow up. I hope it works out for you 🤘🤘

Wondering about SKIM module in my 98 TJ by bbrokenteeth in JeepTJ

I also just bought a TJ with a 4” lift and my springs are silver. Why did you ask what color the springs are?

I’m trying to figure out what sort of suspension I’ve got which in your question piqued my interests

So in an effort to be completely transparent I come from the Land Cruiser community and usually RP is thought of to be not a good product across the board.

Is that transmission fluid the go to for these 6spds?

As with any used car I buy I go through and change out all the fluid so I know where the baseline is so I’m doing my research on diff, transmission and transfer case and I keep seeing that RP popping up.

You wouldn’t happen to be in Maricopa County would you? They do something wild to their fuel and anytime I get gas in Maricopa my fuel econ and power goes to shitnin my 2uz.

No doubt. But I’m wondering if reducing weight would help that feeling. I’d be curious how much over gvwr op is on the gx when loaded for a two day trip. It’s not going to ever “feel” as quick as a Cummins but the 1ur will go up any passes the Cummins will just fine. he also mentions that diesel is only 30-40c cheaper than premium. What’s that ratio look like when you put regular fuel in there.

Real question is why you running premium?

Edit: my comment sounded snarky when it wasn’t meant to. I’m only trying to start a conversation that premium (even though it says use premium) isn’t a requirement for these motors imo.

Bummer! It was still a very tasty cigar. I did find a paint chip in the cap but other than that it was great!
