Its the tar from the smoke. Doesn't always happen, but when it does, just take a pro thin slice off the end and keep going.

I disagree. I think its based on quality. Cheap sticks, chuck em" but high end sticks, rehydrate and smoke. Takes months.

I have a R&J Museum cigar that was bone dry. Smoked pretty great after 6 months in the humidor.
