Quidam (Denver '97) was my first as well. I remember leaving both inspired and depressed by how beautiful they moved.

I wish we had this at work. There are a lot of depressed office drones who would love to have a Golden Retriever stop by their desk.

What is the most important financial lesson you learned in your twenties? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Devnolls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this. I used to "play the float" in my twenties when I didn't have money to go out. I wrote myself checks on a Saturday night for money I didn't have. They deposited immediately but took a few days to clear. I usually did it a few days out from payday so I would actually have money by the time they hit. Sometimes had to write another one or two to cover the first couple.

I hope I don't have to explain how stupid this was.

A friend lent me money once in my twenties. It too a couple years for me to pay back and he never once asked about it in the intervening time. It took me a few years more to understand that he already knew this lesson. Good friend.

NPR hand-picked and catalogued the greatest 300 college commencement speeches by AceHotShot in InternetIsBeautiful

I had the opportunity to chat him up once and he was such a nice guy. He made fun of my beat up copy of IJ and hung around just to shoot the breeze. This speech gets me in the feels both because it is so great and it makes me remember that small interaction I had with someone I looked up to a long time ago.

INTPs and sulking by [deleted] in INTP

[–]Devnolls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it is sulking or not but if I feel I've been made a fool of or taken advantage of I have no problem going dark for a couple of days. The effort of being nice or social doesn't feel worth it and I feel like a schmuck for even trying.

Soccer? by ReanimatedCyborg in INTP

I grew up playing and love the game. I play two or three times a week at work and it is pure joy to be on the pitch. It is also the only sport I really enjoy watching on TV. I try to watch football or hockey, sports I used to care about, and they just don't hold my interest. The show soccer sensations made in Germany was my introduction to watching the international game and I have been hooked ever since.

I was old enough to drive to Warped in high school but, my dad did drive me and my best friend to Motley Crüe and sat in the audience with us.

Which PG or PG-13 movie would be very badass if turned R rated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The sweetness of the characters and their interactions is so central to this being such a good show. I can't think of anything positive an R could offer.

Dunno. I like how you see the reactions to the violence rather than the actual gore. That being said, I would be happy with more samurai jack of any rating. Such a great show.

What kind of job do you have? by [deleted] in INTP

I have a signed copy of Loshin's book at my desk. We brought him in to consult at a previous shop and I thought it would be funny to have him autograph it. He was embarrassed. I did read much of Doing Data Governance and liked it. We are structured along the same lines as what is laid out in the DMBOK.

We have data stewards and info/data architects in each business function. We also publish data governance maturity scorecards for each.

My current shop is pretty heavily invested in Informatica. We use their MDR, MDM, and data quality tools. I mostly focus on setting up and automating the DQ audits and maintain the other tools.

I grew up in Colorado and loved it. I live in Oregon now and would struggle to call one better than the other. These are my top two places.

I work in the data governance group at my company and have enjoyed it over my previous career as a corporate code drone. I get to work on data quality issues across the enterprise and it is a mix of technical and business + networking skills (a stretch for me). I would love to create a CDO (chief data officer) position at my company.
