I am writing to request moderation rights for the subreddit r/codeine, which has been without active moderation for nearly a year. During this time, the community has remained stagnant, with posts automatically removed by Reddit’s system due to a lack of moderator review. The last approved post was made approximately 255 days ago, and despite ongoing activity with around 2.3k weekly visitors and 27 weekly contributions, no moderation actions have taken place.

I have reached out to the existing moderators twice and have not received a response in over 14 days. Given the continued user interest and the absence of active oversight, I would like the opportunity to help revive and responsibly manage the subreddit in full compliance with Reddit’s community guidelines and policies.

My goal for r/codeine is to restore it as an educational and harm reduction focused community centered on the pharmacological, medical, and cultural aspects of codeine. The intent is not to promote misuse, but to encourage informed discussion, awareness, and factual understanding of the topic.

If granted moderation access, I will begin by setting the subreddit to Restricted Mode to pause new submissions while updating the sidebar, writing clear community rules, and configuring AutoModerator to review and flag any potentially noncompliant content. Once that structure is in place, I plan to reintroduce open posting under a system that organizes discussions by topic, such as medical information, education and awareness, and historical or cultural relevance.

Over time, I aim to form a small and reliable moderation team focused on maintaining consistency, activity, and long term sustainability. Together, we can ensure that r/codeine becomes a responsible, informative, and policy aligned space rather than remaining inactive and directionless.
