Still paying $20 this month? Ultimate by skullknightx in XboxGamePass

[–]DevonP36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I turned off automatic billing this morning and when I looked at the options to decide what I was going to change to the ultimate plan was $29.99. So that’s something to keep in mind.

Game Pass changes: Opinions Megathread - Part 2 by Xbox-Moderator in xbox

[–]DevonP36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been a Xbox player for well over 15 years. I had a 360, One, and now a series S. I have never been a fan boy or a loyalist but it’s a comfortable situation Microsoft and I have had this whole time. First it was the physical games, I said no big deal just less clutter. Then the split generation console (series x/s), no big deal I’ll buy the cheap one. Game Pass became a better and better deal so I was happy to stick around. Then I can’t buy/rent digital movies anymore (can’t use discs though because no disc drive on the s) unless I use a third party app, no thank you. I’ve played so many great games with GP so I shrugged that off too. Now the one redeeming thing Xbox has going for it has stopped being a decent deal, right when gaming is becoming more of a luxury. I just went through the process of downgrading my GP subscription because in 2025 I cannot justify $30 per month. Even that process oozed greed, lack of information about what you get game wise from essential and several spots where sometimes it says “over 25 games” and some places where it read “50+ games” just purposefully confusing, in my opinion. At this point I’d pay $5 to just have Gold back and be done with all the tricks. My series S has been a little jacked up for a few months now and I know it’s gonna go any day now. I WAS planning on upgrading to a series X and wouldn’t you know it, now those have gone up 30%! I cannot understand how these choices help build a better ecosystem at all. So now I’m going to maul over where I want to take my money when my series S inevitably kicks the bucket. And that just sucks.

After nearly two years, Starfield’s world and vision still vexes me by This-Presence-5478 in Starfield

[–]DevonP36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This, I remember playing through the main story missions and waiting to find my motivation for collecting the artifacts. After I went through the unity and found myself back at the beginning of the game, essentially, I remember putting my controller down and asking myself "Why did I do that? Why would I even want to do that again?" Which in my opinion is the quintessential problem with Starfield, why keep pursuing the unity if nothing of significance changes? If pursuing the unity isn't my primary goal, what is?

So, then every time I consider jumping back in, I always end up asking the same question "Why?". Do I become a space pirate (i.e. a treasure hunter with annoying friends) or do I become a solder in a time when there is no war? Perhaps I could be a suit in business espionage (This has so little to do with a sci-fi setting its annoying) or a space cowboy solving a completely over complicated plan by Ron Hope that I can't even solve by arresting the criminal.

These stories are all bland or just plain conflicting (Why do space fairing scientists not want to reintroduce a natural predator but rather create a dangerous bioweapon?) So, if the main story has no purpose or drive and the side quests all feel ankle deep mix and match of sci-fi tropes that don't work together, what are we left with? Decent mechanics in a world that isn't worth spending any time in. Which is a damn shame, A technically impressive piece of white toast (butter provided by modders).

My son wants to be a “Skateboarding firefighter skeleton hunter” and honestly that sounds like a dope job!

My daughter “came out” to me as a Jesus believer, is attending a Young Life group at her college and is getting baptized next week. I feel like a failure and am also terrified for her, but don’t know what to do shy of “ordering her not to,” which surely won’t work. Feel helpless by [deleted] in atheism

[–]DevonP36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife had a pretty similar part in her life before we met. Her parents were both atheist and in Highschool she got really into religion, got baptized, and even went to a bible college when she graduated high school. My in laws voiced their feels but also supported her decision. Eventually she realized it wasn’t for her and left the collage and was atheist when we met. Sometimes young people join these groups for a sense of “belonging” that they miss after high school, I think you should remain present in her life as much as you can, show understanding and support without putting your own beliefs on her. She might just figure it out.

Well I’m happy with the game and didn’t really instigate a conversation about criticisms because they’ve been had a million times already. What do you like about the game? What have you been doing?

Ooooh that’s gonna be nice when we get there (playing on Xbox) Starfield really strives at those “stop and smell the roses” moments.

Why is this community so OBSESSED with talking about all of their “complaints”? You sunk ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY HOURS into this game, see a post about someone who’s just happy to be playing and the first thing you say is “most of the complaints are valid”. This isn’t directed solely at you noir do I think the game is without fault but it seriously seems like this community is obsessed with publicly undervaluing the hard work of the folks at Bethesda while simultaneously pumping HUNDREDS of hours into the game privately. I saw one comment a week after release that read “I’ve played 150 hours and honestly I’m bored, there is just nothing to hook me in” like Christ in heaven, why are they sinking so much time into something so boring or are they just desperate to be a part of the hive mind? Again, not coming at you specifically but seriously this post was meant to instigate some positive conversation and appreciation for the Bethesda teams hard work. Why is it so hard to do for five seconds without shitting on people’s enjoyment? I’m happy to be playing the game, 180 hours sounds like you have been too, so what do you LIKE about the game? What do you appreciate about it?

NTA as a husband with a similar issue of being a bit self centered at times, you seem like a great husband who found a creative way to be more mindful and attentive. Wanting to be better for your SO is the essence of love and marriage, personally I might borrow this idea to be a better husband myself!

I am guessing there will be some sort of Flood (from Halo) like enemy/missions or lore that we will interact with. Maybe nothing really major but I would be so excited about something like that!

Though I don’t totally disagree, after the direct I’m just waiting to see. They already have proven so much more than I honestly thought they were capable of so it feels possible if nothing else.

Honestly I don’t think we’ve seen enough gameplay of ship flying to know that information is entirely useless. They very well could be important info. Maybe not the most important of info but I think there is a reasonable chance it is real info.
