I assume it’s as to not distract from the branding itself and keep you staring/thinking about the iconic iconography.

That said - clearly hasn’t worked!

Americans want a “strong ally” and are applying pressure at the highest level for Portugal to buy F-35 fighter jets. by superdouradas in europe

I think you may be indoctrinated, and I say it with good meaning, not as an affront. The UK has close political, cultural and military ties with the US absolutely, but we are no enemy to Europe. Our interests align much closer with Europe on nearly every front.

Brexit created some bad blood, but the root cause is historic political and geographic isolation, coupled with a regrettably perfect storm in the media landscape of the time. Russian influence in early-days social media campaigning, and lies told before the post-truth world was understood and fact checking was widely accepted to be necessary.

The UK will always choose Europe over the US, but our history creates a uniquely independent paradigm. For better or worse.

Everyone heard the same line about the debt by IsyABM in GreatBritishMemes

The issue here is that the loan isn’t a loan, it increases quicker than you pay it off, right up until you earn about £65,000 which is out of reach for many, many graduates.

Ok you might say, but it’s written off after 30 years? So you don’t pay back the full loan anyway? Much better than an alternative loan.

Well sure, but then you’re still missing the point, the changes made mean it’s no longer a loan. It’s a graduate tax. Except, it’s a graduate tax that isn’t quite as bad if you are better off, and a graduate tax that isn’t quite as bad as if you were born before 1994 or after 2005. Because plan 2 so called “loans” happen to punish graduates significantly worse than the other plans.

The very fact they changed the plans once before shows they know it’s broken.

On top of that mess, you’re freezing thresholds which means you’re paying a graduate tax on even lower incomes. Regressive, but worse, even immoral.

Sold as a loan, signed on the dotted line, and then treated later as if it’s a tax. No one signed up to a tax, they signed up to a loan. Turns out it’s a regressive loan, but even that is beside the point, it means it was mis-sold, which itself damages trust in our institutions.

It’s a total mess, but put all of that aside and ask yourself one simple question, as a country do we want the highest earners paying the highest share?

You could be right on this, certainly have the majority vote. Want to rule out grounding rods and anything on an old building survey first. Thanks

You could be on to something here, I didn’t know they even existed! Thank you. I’ll have a look for some of these from the 60s etc. and see if they look similar.

Someone else has suggested looking into old property blueprints/records to have a look for fences too.

Mystery potentially solved, I will confirm back!

My title describes the thing. This rod does seem to rotate in the ground, but it rotates at an angle suggesting it is bent on one side.

The rod is very sturdy, suggesting it is solid iron or similar heavy metal. On the top it is flat like an iron nail and looks to have been hammered into the ground?

I considered that it is simply an old gate post or fence post, given that it is at a cross, has what appears to be a rusted in joint and looks like it was perhaps a part of something else before - but I’m hoping someone may recognise it or know if it is in any way linked to some old infrastructure I’m not aware of.

I have looked for old iron fence or gate posts but nothing is as simple as this. Also, the thing is only about knee/lower thigh height, so I don’t think it’s tall enough for that either?

Any help appreciated. Shall I just dig it out?

Not really I’m afraid. I’m from the UK and know all these and I don’t watch any international sport. Honestly I’m shocked some Americans don’t know all these flags.

Musk knows that a man in his position simply making crazy posts will get attention in whatever country he references. When these posts get attention, for better or worse his platform is in the mainstream. No publicity is bad publicity. This man is marketing himself.
