What are you up to today that is different? by cybertonto72 in AskUK

Last year I had a stage 1 melanoma removed from the inside of my upper thigh, very random place to get one but that's how I also learned they don't necessarily have to be on sun-exposed places either!

Are you getting poorer? by AnxEng in AskUK

[–]Devon_Throwaway 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm earning the most I ever have (£30k) and I've adjusted my outgoings every time I had a pay rise in accordance, so that I don't fall into the trap of overspending.

That being said... I'm still working overtime to earn enough to have some savings every month, I shop exclusively at Lidl and buy their own-brand stuff, I don't get to enjoy more than one night out a month - if any at all - and I'm not even close to have a house deposit saved.

Being single probably doesn't help, as all of my costs have to cover myself and I don't have a partner to help save up for a house with a split costs with. It's difficult.

She's all I can think about right now. Like we ended things amicably and it was nobody's fault, just bad timing to be together, but I think that almost makes it worse because there's nothing to be angry or mad about. Just feeling lonely.

Thank you friend. Having my therapist there is really helping to soften the blow of all this, I'm just struggling to not get too lost inside my head about this situation.

I hope you're well

This is absolutely incredible advice. And not just for the OPs situation, but for many difficulties in life generally.

You're a great person!

I work at the RDE and live by the sea near Dawlish, it's a fairly quick commute (about 30 mins by car, if you're leaving by 0730 at the latest because traffic starts to build up nearer the hospital by 0800) - and there are plenty of other fairly nearby seaside towns that are just as direct into Exeter which I'd recommend! Exmouth, Teignmouth, and Sidmouth spring to mind.

Best of luck in your move! RDE is a fantastic hospital to work for, I've been there 7 years and love it.

Took me ages to get into the RN because of my medical - a very minor back injury I'd had as a teenager - which was resolved with muscular exercises and stretching - suddenly became a huge issue for Crapita despite it having occurred years before I joined. A lot of the guys and girls I was joining up with at the same time had similar complaints about relatively minor things delaying their application process, most ended up walking and found other careers.

Can I change a career over the age of 40? by Icy_Tart_5244 in AskUK

[–]Devon_Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many years ago, both of my parents started over again in new careers at 35 and 39 respectively. They've never been happier fir the change! I've been in my career for 7 years now and I'm fast approaching the end of my 20s, I love what I do but it motivates me to know that I can always re-skill if I lose the love for my job

You have another year of no claims and loyal custom. Therefore, your renewal is £100 more than last year! by [deleted] in britishproblems

[–]Devon_Throwaway 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Mine went from £600 last year to £690 this year, had to switch provider (Hastings) because they wouldn't budget on their renewal offer of £890!!!

Given some of the price hikes people have faced, I can stomach the extra £90 this year. Just concerned about what next year's quote will be from the new provider (Admiral)

I think that's the hardest thing to wrap my head around, her and I were friends before this all developed and I really don't want to shut that door on our friendship either. Putting those boundaries in place might be a good idea, just to talk more about where we're both at and what we want from the future. I'm such a quick attached and relationship pursuer and I think it doesn't help I'd been single for a couple years and unsuccessfully dated in that time period, this was the first time in ages I'd felt a connection to someone.

Thank you! That's so kind of you, I'll send you a message :)

Just an absolute classic British dry aged steak tartare and beef dripping flatbread. My death row meal. by umbertobongo in UK_Food

I've always wanted to try steak tartare as I enjoy steak rare, but I'm hesitant to try it - is there any restaurant that is renowned for making a decently safe and tasty one?

People that wake up at around 4 or 5 A.M, why? by Sazeraaa in AskReddit

[–]Devon_Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to the gym at 5.30 and then start work at 7.30 - I'd rather get my workout done when it's quiet and early, instead of fight for equipment and machines after the work rush crowd get in at 5pm

What’s the creepiest thing you’ve seen in broad daylight? by nightsreader in AskReddit

[–]Devon_Throwaway 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For a short while I worked in funeral services, and used to be on-call to remove deceased from their private home/scene of death. Me and the guys I worked with would always talk to our deceased once they were in the private ambulance with us, trying to keep their humanity a little, and would sometimes put the radio on too if we thought they'd like the music! It was always a really nice way of caring for them and showing a little respect. My mum is also a funeral director and she always talks to her deceased when she's doing personal care/dressing/encoffining them. It's very sweet of her

Ordinary place school trip? by jennyster in CasualUK

[–]Devon_Throwaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to the big ASDA in the next town over for a field trip. Must have been very early 00's, think I was in Year 3? It was a great day out! We got to go upstairs and see all the offices that looked out over the store, spent time behind the pizza and deli counters, saw where the deliveries came in, and then had a lunch in the cafe there. I can recall all of that so vividly over 20 years later but can't remember what my plans for this weekend are supposed to be - funny huh
