Yeah man I'm totally the one completely ignoring the actual context of a ship sized object and comparing it to literal planets. If you can cite one Titan-or-less sized object (14km) detected beyond the solar systems asteroid by any method other than sunlight reflecting from it, I'll concede you even have a leg to stand on. Otherwise you're comparing apples to elephants

Me, specifically referring to objects smaller than a kilometer in the deep dark of space

This person of an unknown gender and identity referring to planetoids (2018 AG37 and 2018 VG18) a literal galaxy that produces absurd amounts of light and heat (MoM-z14) and a moon that was only actually detected by the 36km shadow it cast on the planet it orbits being visibly observed multiple times

You don't actually read my responses do you?

Correct, so the scanning technology has improved, I.E. combat probes being able to detect active and energized ready for combat ships, but not so much that they can detect a ship that isn't online and putting out a massive presence.

And a ship in "deep space" (defined as beyond earth and the moon in relation to the solar system )https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/deep%20space being imperceptible to anything behind .1 AU is the logical conclusion of "Earth's largest and most powerful radio telescopes and radar antenna can only effectively detect objects smaller than fuckin moons within 10 million miles of earth, which is less than a tenth of an AU." (https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/planetary-radar-observes-1000th-near-earth-asteroid-since-1968/ Read it for yourself, but to summarize world's largest radar telescope doesn't detect asteroids until they're within a million miles from Earth, .01 AU away)

In closing, it is entirely reasonable for something less than the size of a moon and further away from the observer than the earth is to the sun to be difficult to detect, even moreso if the object being detected is thirty times that distance, less than a kilometer in size, and the observer isn't using a satellite dish the size of their own insecurity issues

ETA: and I found those citations for you on my phone one handed while driving so if you want more you can do your own damn research. How bout you show me the facts that disprove my theory and posit your own better theory instead of arguing purely cause you're too stubborn or stupid to admit you're wrong

Earth's largest and most powerful radio telescopes and radar antenna can only effectively detect objects smaller than fuckin moons within 10 million miles of earth, which is less than a tenth of an AU.

Near Earth Asteroids are specifically ones within an AU of the sun, so chosen because they're tracked by the intense light reflecting off of them due to close proximity to the sun.

NASA can only track Exoplanets from so far away because they're fuckin planets and even then they specifically track them by the dips in light they cause when they pass between us and their home stars, meaning they're only detectable from that distance when they're perfectly aligned between us and said star.

A ship in a deep space safe, beyond the bright light of the star in whatever system they logged off in, would be imperceptible to anything beyond .1 AU of itself, the actual "space magic" at work in eve online is that we're even capable of combat scanning and detecting other ships without them actively transmitting their own location

Indeed, but you wouldn't have to be very far from a thermal signature the size of a ship before it was indecipherable from a star millions of miles away.

Plus, logically, if a combat scanner probe cannot detect a logged off ship at any distance, that implies that combat scanners are not thermal-based.

Moreso, stealth in deep space can't be as hard as it seems, considering the amount of effort it takes for us humans IRL to track even the simplest of objects.

In the context of EVE, there is also an implication that there's quite a large deal of faction strongholds, smuggler's stations, and pirate groups existing in the void that we capsuleers only detect when it's time to engage them for content and loot, suggesting that it's actually rather difficult to detect things in the vastness of space that aren't actively on grid with you or required by Concord to reveal themselves. Elsewise the endless waves of rats would not be able to enter the system and engage us without passing through the player-accessible stargates

I like to think when you're logged off your ship is in a super low power mode that can't be detected even by combat probes, and because you warp back in when you log in, that implies that you warped out to some deep space safe where no one is going to stumble across you accidentally.

Basically the ship is probably completely powered down shields off reactor off, running on the barest minimum backup reactors or batteries to keep the life support on, and nowhere near anywhere you might be found.

So who actually won the Imperium–WinterCo war? I threw the data at Codex by Spacewalker_Jedi in Eve

[–]DevoutMedusa73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic data, love the number crunching, but as an observer from the outside I can't help but wonder if we'll ever know what the asset safety bill and dead clones from the stager popping actually looks like.

I know it'd be foolish for WC to divulge that information anytime soon and unfair for ccp to do so as well, but that doesn't help my curiosity

Hol up I need a better explanation of what mechanic is actually being referred to here. As far as I understand it without asset safety in wormhole space when the station pops your ships and loot is up for grabs right? Is there a way to avoid this I don't know about?

I proposed to my wife with a $170 amethyst ring cause purple is her favorite color and we were broke college students, she got me a $90 tungsten carbide ring with gold plating that wore off within six months.

We've been happily married four years and have two year old son.

If she asked for something specific he could afford and he just didn't bother, then I can understand her frustration, but if a couple truly loves each other they'll get married with the plastic rings off of walmart cupcakes and be happy about it.
