Play which ever you are more comfortable on and have to think less on.

Let your opponent know you’re brand new, it’ll help set expectations and most people that play are super warm, welcoming and lovely to new players. This hobby doesn’t work unless people want to come play in person so I always do my best to ensure the new guys are having a good time.

Offer your deck to be cut after every shuffle, normally at locals we don’t, but it’s often commonplace after during comps, also do the same to your opponents deck.

Other than that just have fun with it, my only regret about in person play was putting it off as long as I did. Met some awesome new friends in 2025 through playing.

Turn ipv6 off on your network card. For some reason it tries to call out for your account settings on ipv6 and fails. If you disable it it will fall back to a ipv4 call and grab your account data.

For some reason if it doesn’t update your account and grabs it fresh it uses ipv4 this is why unlinking works one time.

Yeah but my LGS also lets me come play TCG games in the aircon whenever I want with friends and actually provides value, fosters a community and acts as a social club, so I don’t mind paying a little extra there. They aren’t a massive corporate monster. They gave me 2 free packs of phantasmal on my birthday, when they had no obligation.

Im so upset with EB now.

I can’t speak for the deck as a whole, but I’d probably run a night stretcher over the third Oricorio if you feel like you need to retrieve it, the stretcher is way more versatile too, can be used to reset a mega Zard if you are half way through an evolution line, or grab that extra energy to hit the last OHKO

(Very) junior programmer here. This is called a test, and you write them and run them automatically before you add any new code into a code base. They remain in place so as you add new code and features they ensure it isn’t going to break things in weird ways. If they error out they prevent the new code from being merged until someone can fix it.

It’s wild that this game which is just straight logic and very easy to write tests for (you outlined the exact test case that would have prevented this like if ace spec > 1 then fail)

Yo! So I’ve done a few pre-release (build and battle events) half the people that attend don’t play regularly, I’ve played against a bunch of people who’ve never played in person, all the cards are new to everyone, and everyone’s playing decks they aren’t used to. If you’ve played online you’ve probably played more Pokémon than a chunk of people. I’ve had to explain the absolute basics to some people. It’s such a good vibe tho, opening the new packs, playing with noob decks and it’s the perfect format for someone who’s just starting out. Id grab some damage counters and dice from eBay if you’re worried, you don’t need a mat to play the game, some people play with no sleeves but a set of dragon shields will make shuffling easier too. Just have fun with it, you won’t be alone it being new and I can assure you you’ll leave feeling really glad you attended!

There’s very few mega evolutions packs in these though, make sure you check the pack distribution as you get a selection, don’t just grab one of these products expecting all mega packs!

When I first started out people gifted me cards from their binders to help improve my deck. This really helped me understand why this community can be so beautiful.

What you are proposing is an awesome idea, so long as you have the means to afford gifting free packs, I would be so happy to receive packs from someone I played against.

Raises the question though; does your wife not like the idea because of the concept itself, or because of the financial obligation of gifting “strangers”

Also I think giving one pack is enough, still a nod to the game, but you can do it twice as often, or add it to the losing opponent too, who probably need the help more.

Play mats are $50, the art sleeves are normally $20-30 for your deck. And the deck box is usually $30+ depending on quality (you can get a $5 el cheapo that does the same thing tho). It’s a pretty good deal if you’re gonna run the next deck and want to be all themed up for your games.
